Fruits, vegetables and plants can be found in abundance in this world of ours. More or less tasty, they come in all shapes and colors, bringing benefits to our skin or only to our health and taste. Sour or sweet they all come as a blessing whenever we may feel like tasting them. There must be thousands of them on Earth, some of them looking odd as they may have a pretty weird shape or aspect, yet tasty. You would probably consider many of the fruits and vegetables about to be mentioned not normal-depending here on the meaning each one of us gives to this word.

#10 Goatsbeard

You most probably never tried them and if you had then you either liked their oyster-like taste or didn’t and in this case you promised yourself to never eat them again. I am referring to the salsify’ roots as they are also known under this name and as their pungent root is the one which became popular for what some consider to be a unique flavor.

Goatsbeard

Quite popular in Europe and in the southern part of the United States, they are used from soups to stews, in order to lend these foods some of their flavor. Are you willing to try them?

#9 Jabotacaba Fruit

You most probably find it difficult to retain their name yet as some say you will not be able to forget their taste. These fruits look like some grapes yet some say that they have a thicker skin. They are dark purple to almost black in color and a flavor similar to certain muscadine grapes. At least this is what people who have tasted them say. I would honestly give them a try and enjoy their taste.

Jabotacaba Fruit

The weird part comes when considering the fact that they grow up on the trunk or on the branches of the shrub known under the name of Jaboticaba. They look pretty weird up there in the tree yet these fruits are sweet and tasty.

#8 Paw Paw Fruits

Also known as the prairie banana or poor man’s banana, it is considered to be the largest edible fruit native to America. Have you ever been aware of its existence? Well, if you enjoy eating bananas and pine-apples then clearly this is what one may call your fruit.

Paw Paw

It has a flavor that can be situated between the two fruits. They resemble bananas in shape yet they are shorter and they also have a more fragrant smell when being well ripe.

    hey there,
I just wanted to let you know your picture of a paw paw is, in actuality, a papaya. Have a nice day!

  2. What Paw Paw? says:

Wrong pic for paw paw. You have a papaya.

  3. faskab72@gmail.com says:

Well papaya is the spanish name for pawpaw. Although we Americans prefer the spanish name, the actual english name for that fruit remains pawpaw.

I used to own a fruit and vegetables business since I was 14 years old and planted some trees too. The picture that you showed here for paw paw is that of a papaya. The two fruits are not even related and when you cut both in half, the papaya flesh is orange with around and small seeds (like 3/16″), while the paw paw has white flesh with big, black seeds. The papaya fruit grows only from the trunk from female seeds extracted from the middle of the fruit, while the paw paw grows from the branches. You can see the papaya in this website: http://dailyfitnessmagz.com/2011/11/papaya-health-benefit/ and the paw paw in this other: http://www.tcpermaculture.com/2011/08/permaculture-plants-pawpaw.html. Could you please make the correction so school children doing research do no get the wrong information and get ashamed in front of the classmates?
