14 year-old tourist shot in St.Thomas

A Puerto Rican tourist aged 14 years old was killed on the United States Virgin Islands because she was caught in the crossfire between two gangs.

Lizmarie Perez Chapparro from Puerto Rico was killed in front of her family after being in the gunfight and was struck by a bullet while she was riding with her relatives on a safari bus that walks tourists across the territory of the three islands. The girl and her family were taken to St. Thomas by the Carnival Victory, which is part of the Carnival Cruise Line and departed San Juan, the Puerto Rican capital on Sunday. There was another cruise ship passenger that was injured during the shooting, but the wound was minor.

Jennifer De La Cruz, the Carnival Cruise Line spokeswoman, said that the Miami cruise line suspended for the moment all trips that are performed near St. Thomas where the violence took place. There was another victim, a St. Thomas teenager, who was killed in the gunfire while he attended the funeral of someone that was fatally shot on the 29th of June. The police said that Shadid Joseph, the 18 years old victim, was found dead on Monday and that he had loaded gun with him. The two victims were shot from a red Honda Civic in the area of the Coki Point Beach.
