2 killed and 4 injured in Albuquerque domestic violence shooting
Two people were killed and four others were wounded when a former employee of Emcore Corp., an Albuquerque fiber optics manufacturer, opened fire in a domestic violence dispute.
The shooting involved the killer’s girlfriend whom he had children with, and police Chief Ray Schultz said there was at least one more domestic violence situation that involved the gunman, but it happened outside Albuquerque, where they used to live. After killing two and hurting four, the shooter turned the gun on him. The Emcore complex was surrounded by police cars and helicopters but it was clear that the shooter was not able to escape, because he was injured and the six victims were taken to University of New Mexico Hospital. One of the victims was already dead at the arrival to the hospital and one died in the operating room, during the surgery and the other four are stable and not in danger anymore.

Schultz initially thought that there were six dead people, but he excused later at the press conference saying that the responding officers saw people down and believed that they were dead. They did not stop to check them because they had to find the shooter and then take care of the victims. This is the police standard procedure and the officers that arrived after finding the gunmen saw that there were people that survived. The second mix up took place at the University of New Mexico hospital, when, instead of one victim that died during transportation, there were reported two deaths.
