8 more Americans dead in Kandahar
Eight American soldiers died in attacks in southern Afghanistan in a car bombing and gunfight outside the police station from Kandahar.
The fatalities are counted in the last 24 hours and came just a day after three more British soldiers were killed by the Afghan army allies. In the south of Kandahar a suicide attacker crashed a bombed car in the door of the Afghan National Civil Order Police and minutes later insurgents started shooting with machine guns and grenades. Three American soldiers, an Afghan policeman and five civilians died during the attack. ANCOP, a special police unit, has recently been dispatched to Kandahar to set checkpoints together with the international forces to secure the Talibans’ place of origin. Three of the dead civilians were Afghan translators and two were security guards.

Qari Yousef Ahmadi, the Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack by phone call. However, the insurgents declared that there were 13 international soldiers dead and eight Afghan security forces. NATO and the Afghan troops are trying to pressure insurgents to the rural area of the country, away from the Kandahar province. This is done in order to improve security with better-trained police forces so that the government can develop projects and win the loyalty of the ordinary Afghans. The Talibans fought back with suicide attacks and bombings, so that the last month was the deadliest one for the international soldiers since the war begun, nine years ago.
