It seems that more and more people are becoming fat and obese and there is a reason for that: we eat more than our bodies require. The reason why we eat is because we feel hunger, but the scientists have reached to the conclusion that there might be cases when we do not actually need the food when we feel the hunger.

They believe that hunger is a reaction to certain stimuli, and in what follows I am going to present you the main reasons why we might feel hungry.

#8
We are bored

You might not believe it, but there are many people who eat because they are bored. They do not have what to do, and in order to fill their time they start eating. This can be a huge problem because the extra pounds will be visible very soon. The problem is that instead of consuming healthy low calorie foods when they are bored, they eat pretzels, sweets, and other food items which might not be too good for the health.

People do not eat because they feel like they should eat, but because they have nothing better to do.

#7
We take certain medications

There are cases when your appetite is influenced by the medications which you take. It seems that people react in a different manner to the medications, and there might be cases when a certain medication might trigger your appetite, but another person might not suffer from the same side effects. It seems that the medications which contain prednisone, which is a corticosteroid, are the ones you should avoid if you can. Of course, the medications which contain mild steroids usually have these side effects.

When you feel hunger even after you have eaten a meal, try to chew bubble gum, or to drink water in order to get rid of the hunger sensation. In case you have to take these medications for a long period of time, you should consult a dietician, who will make a meal plan for you.

We do not sleep as much as we should

Another reason why we might feel hungry in certain situations is because we did not have a good night sleep. It is said that the body requires about 7 or 8 hours of sleep each night, and when we do not get that sleep, we have to suffer on the long run. When we sleep less than that, we lose lots of energy, and the main reaction of the body is to receive as much energy as possible, which comes from food. Our appetites are modified because of the lack of sleep as well, and we feel hungry more often than if we would have slept as we should have. It seems that when we do not sleep as much as we should, the levels of gherlin which is a hormone produced by the stomachs which stimulate hunger increase, whereas the levels of leptin, which are hormones produced by the fat cells from the body decrease. The leptin controls our appetite.

It seems that when the levels of these two hormones modify, then we eat more than we should. Of course, that works against us, and in most of the cases we put on weight. In case you can not sleep as much as you should, be sure to eat as much protein as you can, and lots of complex carbohydrates, as they will keep you full for a very long time.

We eat out of habit

We are creatures of habit, and once we are used with doing something, it is very difficult to change the habit. This is one of the main reasons why we always seem to get hungry around the same hours; if we eat at 1.PM for example each day, then we will be hungry around that our, even if we ate at 11 A.M. When that happens in most of the cases we eat as much as we can in order to control the hunger. We might binge eat as a result, and that can be very bad for our waste lines. When we are hungry after less than two hours after we have just ate, the chances are that we aren’t actually hungry and that we would like to eat because we are used to it. If we sit at the table and we realize that we are not hungry, then we should not eat.

There are also cases when we associate certain activities with eating. For example you might always eat when you go to a ball game, or when you watch TV, and so on. It is very important to make certain eating plans, and to structure the meals from the morning. If we do that there are less chances to over eat, and to binge eat.
