Sunday evening was deadly for a plane pilot, who crashed with the plane he was flying into a house.
According to police reports, the plane was a single-engine airplane and the pilot was killed at impact, when it crashed into a house in Biddeford, Maine. The airplane and the pilot were not the only ones to suffer, as the house was also set on fire after the crash. Fortunately, the house was empty, as the owners were out having dinner. According to what the Portland Press Herald reported, the home’s owners, Kim and Steve Myers, were at Kim’s sister’s house to have dinner together, when the accident happened.
The plane hit the roof of the house at about 6 p.m. on Sunday and the roof caught fire instantly. According to the Biddeford Fire Department Capt. John Pothier, there was only one person in the airplane, the pilot, but his name has not been released yet. Furthermore, it seems that the direction towards which the airplane was heading is not known, according to Arlene Salac, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration. The house is at a distance of only a mile from the Biddeford Municipal Airport. Salac said that they knew little about what happened, but that “all I can tell you is that it’s a small general-aviation aircraft with one confirmed fatality.” He concluded by saying that the National Transportation Safety Board will take over the investigation to see what really happened before the airplane crashed in the house.
