Environment and protecting it is such a daily discussion that new ideas come to people’s mind every minute. In this way there are a lot of gadgets that appear or are due to appear in just a matter of months on the market. Not to mention those concepts and designs that try to step over the line of just gadgets. I am talking about cars and houses. But there are also more than houses that begin to become environmental-friendly. There are communities that begin to develop eco-friendly surroundings.

For example, the major concept of Tony G, William, an English architect who designed a whole eco village in Bali, Indonesia. The project is called ‘Bloo Lagoon’ and is meant to provide the link between nature and people in such a way that neither should ‘suffer’. The houses of the village are built from natural materials, such as stones and bamboo and they utilize passive climate control measures. These passive control measures try to save energy in a variety of ways. For instance, the open interiors of the houses allow sunlight to enter and at the same time natural ventilation, making the use of electricity or air conditioning to be less needed. Moreover, the energy is saved by using LED lights, simple refrigerators and solar cells. The rainwater is collected through the village’s collection system and the village provides communal gardens to grow organic food. A dream came true.

Now, with these eco friendly houses, light at night should also be eco friendly and energy saving. This is possible with all the rechargeable lamps that exist on the market. But, for more energy to be saved, there are these simple and nice lamps that would totally fit the interior of such a house in the Bloo LAgoon.

The Touchpot device is in fact an environmental friendly artificial plant with a rechargeable battery incorporated, with a very nice design by Aydan Design. The leaves of the plant, when touched by your hands or by the wind’s breeze, produce kinetic energy that makes it possible for a LED light panel integrated withinthe pot to be powered. The energy can also be used to power rechargeable batteries of other devices. It is quite nice, if you consider the fact that the plant can look as differently as possible day by day, its leaves being able to fold and unfold and move the direction you desire, process which will produce energy.

Now that your energy is saved and the environment protected, you also need a car to help you keep the nature as pure as possible. For example, that Bio Bug from VW or, if you are a race admirer you could try the latest state of the art car in the field of race cars.

The designer Bhushan considers that racing on the NASCAR tracks is all right, but it would be more exciting if such races will take place in the wilderness as well. Therefore, he designed a car that will be able to race in any environment, including in the mountains. His device was named X-T-Rex, a shortening from Extreme T-Rex (although the car does not look like the dinosaur at all). The car is light, being made from carbon fiber and will be equipped  with an electric engine.

If we want to live in a healthy place, to be one with nature, and at the same time feel the power technology has given us in all these years, then some of these gadgets – if we can still call them gadgets – can be really helpful. And until the race car will be available and a new Bloo Lagoon built in other corners of the world, let’s enjoy the more available Touchpot.11
