Barefoot Bandit finally caught
Colton Harris-Moore, known as the “Barefoot Bandit” is believed to be responsible for hundreds of burglaries and of the stealing of at least five airplanes.
Harris-Moore was arrested on Sunday and is believed to have stolen in the past two years a plane from the Orcas Island Airport in San Juan County, an experimental aircraft from San Juan Island, a plane from the Boundary County Airport in Idaho, a plane from an airport in Skagit County and a plane from the Monroe County Airport in Bloomington. The frightening thing is that the 19 year old boy managed to steal 5 planes in two years and never get caught, even after the increasing security measures that followed 2001. Basically that means anybody that wants to steal a plane can steal it. John A. Greaves, an airline accident lawyer and former pilot, says that there is urgent need for airport security re-evaluation because if the security measures were respected as they should have, there would have been no theft case.

In the last years, billions of dollars were spent for airport security, but most of them have been invested in security inside the airports, in the detriment of security surrounding planes.
