It may seem really hard to believe, but a recent research has indicated that four in ten women actually gain weight when they are holding a diet.
Well, this doesn’t mean that you will gain weight because of the diet, but because for many women having eating restrictions is actually very hard and sometimes only after one day of diet they give up to the temptations and so eat even more than they would normally have. And according to a European research that just released its results, it seems that one in ten women can not resist it and brake the diet rules within a day after making the decision to hold it, while only a fifth are able to last a week.

Four in ten women are having more extra pounds at the end of the diet than at the beginning, researchers found. How do specialists explain it? It looks like the lack of will should be blamed for the diet’s negative effects. But, when women don’t give up to the diet and achieve the weight they desired, it lasts about 21 days until they start noticing that there are extra pounds formed again and maybe more than they had to deal with in the first place.

And it’s not a secret at all that many women, and also men, nowadays suffer from obesity or are overweight. However, people that hold simple diets to get rid very quick of the extra pounds that have gained, seem to forget that diet is linked to the concept of healthy lifestyle and in general, the whole process is a long lasting one, for it to be successful on long term.

In this research were questioned about 2000 women regarding their habits when it comes to diets and eating. The subjects were aged between 18 and 65 and were analyzed from their weight management and weight loss actions point of view. The findings indicated that six in ten women have diets regularly and one in ten is at diet all the time. What determines women to take the decision to start a diet? Well, it seems that the most common reasons why women start holding diets are given by the fact that they see their reflections in the mirror, there is the summer coming up and they are preparing for the holiday or they just realize that they need a change when they are willing to post some photos on a web socializing network. And of course, comments coming from people surrounding them regarding their weight and looks or other remarks of this kind are considered to be a very good reason to start a diet by many women.

“Too many women simply flirt with the notion of dieting via unhealthy yo-yo dieting or quick fix solutions – rather than entering into a proper long-term relationship with healthy eating,” Dr Ian Campbell said to the Daily Mail. But, “Successful weight management requires a holistic and committed approach focusing on food, body and mind.”

But, most people wait and want quick results and things don’t actually work like that. Well, maybe in the first phase the extra pounds are lost, but, on long term the new figure won’t be maintained and the one holding the diet will gain even more than has lost. “Dieting can be a real challenge so setting realistic goals and remaining focused on them is important” because “Otherwise as this research shows, women could end up heavier than when they started,” Dr Ian Campbell added.

So, what women, and also men, that want to loose weight should know is that for the whole process to be successful it takes some time and the results shouldn’t be expected right the next day after the diet started. It takes a lifestyle change more than an alimentary regime to be able to lose weight and maintain a perfect figure.11
