Your favorite type of berry will soon become available at Rogers

For some odd reason I simply can’t understand the appeal of new Blackberry handsets. They seem to be so much like old Blackberry handsets. But perhaps I’m not the type of person RIM is actually building those phones for. So for all the Blackberry enthusiasts out there, I have some exceptionally good news. RIM has finally revealed the Blackberry Bold 9780. Because of a huge string of leaked information and photos, you might already know what this device is about. In case you don’t, we’re going to go over the details again.

The Blackeberry Bold 9780 comes with a premium design and finish RIM handsets are well known for delivering. It includes a 2.4 inch 65,000 color display, HSDPA, GPS, 802.11b/g WiFi with UMA support, a 5 megapixel camera on the back featuring autofocus, image stabilization flash, 2x digital zoom, 512MB of Flash memory and a microSDHC memory card slot supporting cards of up to 32GB. The processor under the bonnet is good enough to handle most tasks and it’s clocked at 624 Mhz.

Things have also evolved in terms of operating system in Blackberry land. The new Blackberry 6 OS delivers crisp, more immersive visuals the likes of new icons, graphics and animations, a new Webkit browser that offers tabbed browsing, context-sensitive pop-up menus and redesigned core apps. We’ll end the list with a new multimedia UI as well as several new apps that can be used for downloading podcasts, watching videos on YouTube or integrating RSS and social networking feeds.

“We are very excited to introduce the BlackBerry Bold 9780 featuring the new BlackBerry 6 operating system,” said Carlo Chiarello, Vice President, Product Management at Research In Motion. Chiarello also went ahead and mentioned that the new model builds on the highly refined mobile experience that Blackberry Bold users are probably already familiar with. So it’s still a Bold, just like the older ones you might love by now, but it brings a significant set of improvements to keep users up to date and in line with current technology.

According to the initial press release, the Blackberry Bold 9780 smartphone will become available through a high number of carriers around the world starting November. RIM didn’t mention which carriers would sell it or what the price of the new Bold will be. But we did find out a bit more today. It looks like the handset will start selling through Rogers in November. How do we know? The carrier came up with a confirmation yesterday yet didn’t reveal a lot of information. The info was picked up by The Cellular Guru who received an e-mail from its Rogers contact. The e-mail read: “Hey, You may have seen BlackBerry’s announcement about the 9780. Just wanted to let you know that Rogers will be carrying it. No additional details now, but I’ll send you a heads up when the device is available.” Expect a price tag of around $149.99 on a three year contract or $599.99 with no commitment whatsoever. People who were having a hard time deciding whether to upgrade to the Torch will now have a chance to get this instead.
