Blatter, unhappy with the final
FIFA President Sepp Blatter blames both Dutch and Spain’s players who ruined Sunday’s World Cup final with too many fouls committed plus other little incidents against English referee Howard Webb who was inclined to show twelve yellow cards and one red, the Netherlands conceding eight of them and also the red one shown to Heitinga. Blatter declared it was not the kind of match he has expected to see, this unhappy events on the pitch almost destroying what football must offer. In the same time, FIFA boss refused to comment Howard Webb’s refereeing, mentioning only that the trio had to face a very tough confrontation which needed also clear decisions. He went that far to claim that even the human aspect football provides was annihilated due to the very many fouls which inclined the game to be often interrupted. Indeed, the match provided such tense the players couldn’t face and the violent incidents appeared ruining the final. Anyhow, it’s a real pity this happened between both the best and the most beautiful teams of the tournament.
FIFA boss continued: “The final was not exactly what FIFA, and what myself, had expected, in terms of fair play. The refereeing trio had a really hard task on the field and I can say they were not helped in this task,” while referring to the many cards, he added: „This is the human aspect of our game. If our game was perfect, if our game was scientific, if our game was controlled only by technology, by science, there would be no more discussion. This is football. We have to live with the errors, the errors of the players and the errors of the referees. I don’t think perfection exists.”

They say FIFA President was booed at the end of the final due to the bad refereeing. Blatter replied ironically: “The only thing I was aware of was that there were less vuvuzelas. I don’t know about this. In this country and everywhere I have been, I have always been received as a friend, as an African. Yesterday, it was the same, we went on the field of play and I can say it was a great moment.” Still, taking account of the poor refereeing, it must be also mentioned that both Dutch Kuyt and Robben blamed these days Webb’s final performance for Holland’s defeat.
