Cincinnati: Fish Stuns Murray to Reach Semis
American Mardy Fish stunned newly Toronto champion Andy Murray in the quarter finals home in Cincinnati this afternoon. Fish overcame the Scott in three uneasy sets for both as the second one almost started to announce the winner, this ended 6-1 for the US player. Finally, it was 6-7, 6-1, 7-6 for Fish who becomes in the same time the first to reach the semis at the Cincinnati Masters title. The other US remained on course for the US tournament is Andy Roddick who faces number three ATP Serbian Novak Djokovic. Ranked 36th, Mardy Fish surprisingly beats Murray for the third time in a row following the other two meetings in Miami and at Queen’s Club in London.
The Scott seems to have come after a very exhausting period, this winning the last week’s ATP tour in Toronto, where he defeated Roger Federer in two straight sets. Murray now is ‘happy’ to have plenty of resting days before the US Open begins, but needs to remain focused on his play in order to make a much more consistent progress at Flashing Meadows. The 23-year-old is now aiming his first grand slam of the year success, in front of also great shaped and especially well-rested Roger Federer, the Swiss following Murray head to head on his way to the Canadian final as both of the two won finally just one trophy this season. As for the US Mardy Fish, this also impressed at the ATP tour in Newport this summer, winning in this way his first trophy of the year, but he didn’t stopped there, Fish taking also the Atlanta title the same July. Thus, with one July in great shape and two titles this season, Fish’s got enough reasons to fight for his third American title this year, otherwise he’ll still got US tours to come.

Fish didn’t have any problems in progressing at Cincinnati, this taking his victories in minimum of sets until the quarter final, sending off Spaniard Fernando Verdasco and French Richard Gasquet in the third round. Now that he has beaten Andy Murray, Fish might face compatriot Andy Roddick in the semis if this passes too Novak Djokovic. So, two consecutive ‘Andys’ for Fish to beat, in order to follow his third success of the season.
