“Craigslist Killer” commits suicide
The Boston University medical student known by the name of the “Craigslist Killer” committed suicide in jail.
Philip Markoff was imprisoned for numerous murders and gambling. Steve Tompkins, the chief of external affairs at the Sheriff’s Department from Suffolk County, Massachusetts said that Markoff was found dead at the Nashua Street Jail, and since he was alone in his cell, all evidence pointed out that he took his own life. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office declared that there will be an investigation going on to determine whether Markoff really did commit suicide or there are other circumstances that led to his death. Someone working there told the press that Markoff was able to take a razor blade out from one of the disposable razors that jail prisoners are allowed to use and used it to cut his wrists and the femoral artery from his leg. After that he wrapped the wound in his leg in a garbage bag to conceal the blood, and pulled another one on his head and tied it tight around his neck. The guardians went to check on him after he did not go out for breakfast and he also missed morning recreation, but by the time they got there he was already dead. They say they could not have saved him anyway, because he made sure that he will succeed and used his medical knowledge to make sure that he will die.

On Saturday would have been Markoff’s first wedding anniversary, if he would have not been imprisoned for attacking and robbing three women he met through ads they had posted online. Apparently he knew what he was doing was wrong, because he tried to commit suicide at least three times before he was imprisoned. Aged 23, Markoff was accused of killing masseuse Julissa Brisman who was studying to become a drug counselor. Markoff murdered her on the 14th of April 2009 at the Marriot Copley Place Hotel where they were supposed to meet for a “sexual release” massage appointment. A few days earlier he is supposed to have attacked and robbed a Las Vegas hooker at the Westin Hotel and later, on the 16th of April 2009 the police say that he attacked and robbed an exotic dancer at a hotel room in Warwick. The police say that he met all the three victims on the online networking site Craigslist, where they previously poster erotic ads. He was arrested on the 20th of April while he was going to the Foxwoods Casino from Mashantucket, Connecticut, where he had booked a room together with Megan McAllister, his fiancée. The police found in that room evidence linking him to the crimes: panties from his victims and plastic handcuffs which he used to tie them up. He was arrested even if McAllister testified that he was innocent, and a few days after his incarceration he tried to kill himself at the Nashua Street Jail using the leather ties from his boat shoes in order to hang himself to one of the cell bars. This attempted suicide put him away for a month in an isolated cell.
McAllister backed him up at first, and sent the media a letter which was saying that Phillip Markoff was a very gentle person that was not able to hurt anyone and accused the Boston police officers of trying to make money from selling a false story to the press. A week later, after visiting him at the Nashua Street jail she broke off the engagement and Markoff attempted to kill himself once again with a serrated spoon. On the day when he was supposed
