David Ferrer Lobs Ball Towards Crying Baby (Video)

David Ferrer

David Ferrer ended his Miami trip with a shameful gesture. Annoyed by a crying baby, the Spaniard decided to lob the ball towards the stands as reaction to the sound during his quarter final clash against American Mardy Fish. Ferrer lost the game and left the court surrounded by a booing crowd.

At 5-7, 1-1 to Fish, Ferrer was disturbed by the crying while he was playing a crucial ball in a very important moment. Finally, he lost the point and then lobbed the ball towards the zone from where the sound came. His rude gesture was immediately penalized with lots of boos coming from the crowd.

After he hit the ball crowdwards, the crying stopped, but the fans didn’t forget to boo him – once again – right after the meeting. At the end of the game, the Spaniard declared that the cause of the loss wasn’t the crying, but the indigestion. Fish beat Ferrer 7-5, 6-2 to the delight of the home crowd who enjoyed the victory the more the Spaniard came up with that gesture.

Winner of the Auckland and Acapulco tournaments, Ferrer succeeded to make a good figure at the Miami Masters, managing to grab big wins against Somdev Devvarman and Marcel Granollers. Unfortunately for him, the Spaniard left Miami earlier than – perhaps – expected, realizing that he started the Fish clash as favorite.

Ferrer is to pocket $76,195 and 180 points ATP, while the American has already secured a $149,450 check and 360 points ATP. Mardy Fish will next play second favorite Novak Djokovic who is still improving his season record. The Serb eased past Kevin Anderson in the quarter finals and claimed his 22nd win in 22 games this season.

On the first half of the table, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer have also guaranteed a place into the quarters. The world champion passed Alexandr Dolgopolov and is to face Tomas Berdych, while the former world champion Federer is to play Gilles Simon who has already beaten the Swiss a couple of times.
