Delay Alzheimer’s Onset With Vitamin B
The Vitamin B is a part of the B family that is composed of eight soluble water vitamins that all of them have important roles in the cell metabolism. While at first it was believed to be just a single vitamin that contained the entire compounds of all, these days it is well known that there are different and they are therefore referred to as – B1, B2, B3, B5 etc.
Each one of these vitamins has different prescriptions and it can be used in treating various disease and disorders.
Some studies have shown that a big intake of vitamin B supplement daily will lower the risk of catching Alzheimer in old ages. This has a good effect on the shrinking that usually happens in elder people. This is a natural process of aging but it does not necessarily mean that it cannot be kept under control.
The team of British scientists that have come to this conclusion, believe that using this vitamin you can slow or even prevent the development of the disease but more studies are to e made in this regard. These are just preliminary results.
This study was performed on a number of 168 people that were aged over 70 years old and that were diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment – MCI, something that eventually lead to Alzheimer, if that is the case, it could and it could not.
Tests were made during two years time. While some of them were provided with some Vitamin B tablets – B, B6 or B12, some were just proved a pill that had no chemical effect whatsoever. But just a placebo effect.
The results were in such a way that in some patients that actually took vitamin B, registered a decrease of the rate of brain atrophy with 30 percent while others with even 53 percent. “It is our hope that this simple and safe treatment will delay the development of Alzheimer’s disease in many people who suffer from mild memory problems.” “This is a very striking, dramatic result. It’s much more than we could have predicted,” said David Smith, one of the study leaders from the Department of Pharmacology at Oxford University.
According to the World Health Organization around 37 million of people worldwide live with dementia, with the vast majority of the cases being issued by the Alzheimer disease.
As you are diagnosed with MCI you will be registering shrinkage of your brain with twice as fast as if you did not have MCI – 1 percent each year, and those that have Alzheimer will register shrinkage of 2.5 percent every year.
Anyhow, as they got to these results they gave people a higher amount of vitamin B supplements tan the normal dosage.
Anyhow, as these are just preliminary results, people should not hurry in taking this new “treatment”, due to the fact that long term results were not found yet.11
