Earthquake in Afghanistan to make little damage

Earthquake in Afghanistan
On late Friday evening a moderate earthquake hit Hindu Kush Region in northern Afghanistan. However, seismologists said that no damage is expected, although in some parts of the region the earthquake could be felt.
The earthquake happened at 11.51 p.m. local time (1921 GMT), with a magnitude of 6.3, almost 75 kilometers (45 miles) south-southeast of Fayzabad, a district in Badakhshan province of northern Afghanistan. The tremors lasted for about 14 to 15 seconds. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) state that the earthquake was a deep one, striking about 199 kilometers (124 miles) deep.
Nevertheless, the shaking felt in the region and in the neighboring countries ranged from moderate to minor, while authorities affirm that they expect minor if no damage at all to have happened because of the earthquake. It was felt in the following regions: Gilgit, Chitral, Skardu, Abbottabad, Swat, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Mansehra, Peshawar, Kohat, Nowshera, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sarai Alamgir, as well as in Pakistan.
These expectations are quite amazing, considering that a similar earthquake that happened in 1998 resulted in the death of nearly 4,000 people while another in 2005 resulted in the death of 87,351 people and more injured.
It seems however that in between measures had been taken so that although the building were shaken by the earthquake, injuries and death mot to occur any more.
