Emergency Landing In Miami For A Plane With A Hole In The Fuselage
An American Airlines plane made an emergency landing Friday in Miami, after passengers found out with amazement that over a half a meter long hole opened in the fuselage. The Boeing 757 was carrying out an internal flight from Miami to Boston and was at an elevation of 9,000 feet, when the cabin began rapidly to depressurize. Oxygen masks were lowered, and the pilots returned the plane, quickly landing at the Miami airport.
The plane was carrying 154 passengers and six crew, but fortunately nobody was hurt in the incident. It seems that the hole with a length of 600 cm near appeared near one of the plane’s doors during the flight, for it had not been seen in pre-flight inspection. It is assumed that there was a crack in the fuselage which was extended because of air pressure, after takeoff.
Now several National Transportation Safety Board officials are investigating the incident, but it could take several moths before reaching any result or to determine what caused the damage to the fuselage. Meanwhile, American Airlines has taken the 757 out of service and prepared a statement for the media. “American Airlines has assigned a team of engineers and maintenance technicians who are evaluating the aircraft. We have also been in contact with Boeing, the NTSB and the FAA,” said spokesperson Martha Pantin.
This is not the first incident involving an American Airlines plane. On Wednesday, a 737 landed safely at Miami International Airport after reports of a fuel leak.11
