Because of the big problems referees had to face during the World Cup in South Africa, FIFA decided to discuss upon technology which is needed to be introduced especially during the most important football tournaments. A FIFA spokesman declared that this week’s meeting referred only to the mode the technology will be implemented: “The meeting this week is purely to ratify any requests that have come forward over the implementation of the assistant referees experiment, which was used last year in the Europa League,” mentioning that probably the months to come will provide a clear decision upon this problem: „The first formal meeting where that discussion (goal-line technology) could take place is in October.”

During the World Cup tournament, FIFA president Sepp Blatter declared himself that such decision must be taken, otherwise big teams (and not only) which are influenced by little referee details won’t be able to progress on their way to superior phases: „It is obvious that after the experience so far in this World Cup, it would be a nonsense to not re-open the file of technology at the business meeting of the International FA Board in July.” We remind that England was stopped on its way to the comeback during the round of 16 against when Capello’s side was humiliated finally by Germany with 4-1. However, it was 2-0 for the Germans as Lampard’s shot-centimeters-in-the-net was not given by the referee. This got Capello angry to put all the blame on referee and his assistants: “But I say again, I am sure that a big mistake from the referee stopped us from going forward. We scored. It is incredible. In this period of technology, in this period where we can have five referees, we cannot decide if that was a goal or not. We have to speak about this goal. We have to speak about a mistake from the linesman – and the referee because I could see it had gone in from the touchline. I saw the ball bounce and go over the line. I do not understand this mistake.”

It was also Mexico’s situation, when the referee validated an offside goal come from striker Tevez, who scored the opening so here things are probably much more serious, because it’s pretty hard to come back against Argentina once they score first. There were many who didn’t take these referee’s mistakes seriously simply because the two teams (Mexico and England) got clear defeats in the end, 1-3, and respective 1-4.
