There are many people who believe that in the future, the robots will have too much freedom if they will be able to morph into the things they want, and if they will be able to adapt to the surroundings.
They are convinced that the theories presented in such movie as Terminator, 2001, A Space Odyssey and many other movies will eventually become a reality. There are lots of debates about this subject, but it seems that more and more people believe that a robot apocalypse will come sometimes in the distant future. There are various autonomous robots on the market, two of the most popular of them being Roomba, the vacuum cleaner, and Asimo, the little walking robot. They do not represent a huge threat because they have been designed for very simple and innocent tasks. However, many fear that if a company such as iRobot, the company that creates robots for the U.S Army would create them, things would be different. Asimo is a human-looking robot, and it is believed that many like him will follow. The United States of America has stated that it wants to use robots in the war zones, which would have the task of helping the soldiers.
One of such robots would be BigDog, a very huge four-legged machine which would have the task of carrying various things for the soldiers. Japan and Korea have stated that they want to use the robots in order to take care of the elder. Their intention is to design robots which would live with the elder, and which would help them with various tasks. They would remind them to take their medicine, they would be able to measure their blood pressure, take their temperature, and so on. In case they would detect something wrong, they would call the ambulance. Some say that the robotic age has already begun, while others say that it will come way later. The scientists believe that everything will end with the merging between the humans and the robot. We as humans get more and more cyborg-like, as we continuously use various technological devices. There is this guy who placed an LED eyeball, as he had a missing eye, and soon afterward, many people wanted to do the same.
The artificial limbs which some people have are considered to be the first step towards becoming a robot. It is believed that in200 years or so, it will be very difficult to make the distinction between humans and robots.
Yes, we find many things to be cute, such as a stuffed animal, a car, and even a machine. We, as humans are hardwired in this manner; to get affectionate to any item which seems to have a face. It has been discovered that there are higher chances of linking a car which has a human-like face, than one which does not have any human features in it. It is very likely that the robots of the future will look human, because as I said, we enjoy things which look like us.
The researchers hope that they will manage to avoid this situation, by convincing the robot designers that creating a human-like robot is not a very good thing. It is believed that if they look like us, it will be much easier for them to take over the world if that will ever happen.
