Floods And Tornadoes Hit The U.S. This Weekend

Serious floods are announced for this weekend (blog.cmt.com)

After huge snow storms have swept the entire United States during this winter, it seems that this spring will see a couple of floods too.

According to The Weather Channel, many regions of the U.S. will see great storms and possibly some tornadoes during this weekend. The south-central and northeastern USA is said to be in danger of flooding, while the Plains and Deep South are said to see some tornadoes during Friday and Saturday. Meteorologist Tom Moore of The Weather Channel said that the storm will dump some 2 or 3 inches of rain across the lower Great Lakes and that some spots may even get 5 inches of rain. The forecast does not look good for counties in states like Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, which are under flood watches and warnings.

The worst part is that given that these particular states have already seen some serious rain at the beginning of the week, the soil is saturated and thus, it is vulnerable to additional floods. Furthermore, according to Moore, the Blanchard River in Findlay, Ohio, swamped the city after it got 5 feet above the flood level.

A state of emergency has been installed in all the states mentioned above and people are even prepared to evacuate the counties, if something really bad happens. Moreover, according to the Ohio county’s director, the state will probably have to ask the government for help in matters of storm damages.

In what concerns states like New York and New England, they are in danger because there’s still a snow pack covering the streets which will surely melt due to the extensive rain and the milder temperatures. The forecasts also predict thunderstorms and possible tornadoes in regions like Oklahoma, southwest Missouri and western Arkansas, beginning from today.

However, in what concerns the other states, the temperatures will be normal for this period of the year, except for the northern Plains, where the temperatures will be lower than normal. Furthermore, these storms are not related to the forecasts made for the northern Plains (the Dakotas and Minnesota), which are expected to get floods later this month, due to the high amount of water in the snow pack and extremely saturated soil
