No doubt all Internet users or at least a great part of them have heard and use the Google search engine for relevant results offered when searching what interests the user on the Internet. Apparently, Google illustrates and depicts a  site located at the www.google.com address, that lets its users to enter search text and use the buttons to navigate to the most suitable result from the ones that are displayed by Google. Many of those who ask you “What is Google?” will get an answer something like this  “Google is a search engine that displays search results by certain criteria set by yourself and gives the user a very professional response”. This is the definition of Google or it should be.

Like any site, Google too needs servers, employees to handle maintenance, marketing tasks and others. These people  need Google accountants to give them good news regarding the company’s profit, like WorldWeb website says and the accountants do that… they definitely do that…  A simple webpage consisting of a few words and several buttons makes billions. Now let’s talk about other services which you probably heard of and most likely you use them. They can be freely accessed online directly from your browser without installing software on your computer, in some cases. In other cases, you have to install and applications like Google Earth, which is also free, even requires enough space in the hard drive, because it is one of the programs which is under constant updating.

One of the first services provided by Google for their users was Gmail, which grew the number of the Google users exponentially. The name is virtually pleasant, easy to remember, consisting of “G” and “Mail.” The service was launched in 2004 when the main problem of the public of those times was the storage capacity, and then there were hardly providers to offer more than 100 MB. Google officials chose the name “G” “Mail” because they started this project by offering the Google users an overall capacity of 2 Giga. This was a true success at that time. Another advantage that placed Gmail next to its Yahoo Hotmail powerful opponent is the availability of POP3 and IMAP functions. With these two functions any user can import messages, send correspondence or backup by certain client applications like Outlook Express, which is an alternative, used especially by firms with large number of employees. It is believed that the Outlook Express mail management is simpler, more practical, and requires no computer knowledge. In addition to POP3 and IMAP, which is paying Yahoo, Gmail people have a more friendly platform that enables online management of correspondence, which is more organized.

Moreover, people at Google have implemented a stable import / export of correspondence provided by other suppliers. What does this mean for the average user probably businessman with multiple email addresses? Can he interact with virtually all email addresses (either private like Yahoo or Hotmail) by receiving and sending messages using a single email account? The answer is Yes, he can. To get a Gmail account you have to enter http://www.gmail.com.

Another innovation is represented by the services promoted by Google Docs, including Word, Excel and Power Point. All three products come for good as Microsoft products, but Google has the ability to implement them for free and to create online platforms out of them. These products can be tried by you if you have a Google Account (Gmail) and save projects in either Word or Excel, which can be stored and saved on your hard disk. The documents are secure, use a password for protection and come from the Google’s servers, which are more than tested and verified. When you open an attachement from your Gmail, the first thing your system does is to check the attachement for viruses. Even the Google’s servers are very powerful, what happens after the message is sent to its receiver depends on other factors and Google can’t protect your computer from getting damaged, if you don’t use a proper anti-virus software.

Spyware Doctor Antivirus, the famous winner of many competitions organized by different companies that sell security programs for 30 USD (3 licenses) is offered free by Google. Spyware Doctor application is designed to protect your computer from viruses, spyware and comes with advanced detection in real time, so no need to scan your computer daily to find out if you got something or not.

Google Earth is the application that allows you to navigate anywhere in the world, providing quality transposed directly from satellite and 3D buildings. If you want to travel, to find areas that you think would delight your eyes, with Google Earth you can try this because it has a wide coverage and it’s free.

Another important free service that reached millions is Google Picasa, which comes in two variants. The first version of Google’s Picasa website is the place where you can increase the quality of the photos and make them bigger. Or you can import a copy to show colleagues, friends or relatives abroad. The second form comes as a software application installed on the local computer, and is meant to make significant changes to your pictures, here speaking of red-eye reduction to resize or brightness. The application is offered free to those who use Google services and it can be downloaded with one click away from here: http://picasa.google.com

Needless to mention that Google offers the free download and free little programs without which you do not how to survive on the Internet, like Acrobat Reader, Skype (used for audio and video conversations), Google Toolbar that  makes the Internet browsing easy and more.
