What? Does the word “glamping” not ringing you any bell? Actually I’d be surprised if it did. Glamping takes camping into a new dimension of glamorous, luxury and comfort, so it’s easy now to understand that the key word, glamping, comes from the two words glamour and camping.

Many years of enjoyable camping, backpacking and adventure trips might have come across you, but there comes a time when you just say stop, I don’t want this anymore. The whole waking up in the morning, not having too much facilities, always cooking outside or eating from cans, the tents hard to install and the constant annoying bugs- all these have to remain memories.

It’s time for the 21st century camping, the glamping. Actually, glamping truly originated in the early 1900′s, with the popularization of African safaris. Naturally, wealthy travelers weren’t eager to part with the creature comforts of home, and instead stayed in luxurious canvas tent lodging. This tents were fully furnished with luxurious bedding, Persian rugs, antiques and fully staffed with chefs, guides and butlers.

You can now have a similar wildness experience by adding gourmet food, wine and five-star-hotel-quality slumber to your originally safari. Accommodations range from ordinary camping tents outfitted with Oriental rugs, tbles, chairs and even cooling elements, for a whole new wild experience, of course, for those who afford it. If it sounds tempting enough for a trip to Africa, visit Go Glamping.

WHAT?! Ok, I am the only that thinks this glamping this ruins the whole concept of camping?! Camping is supposed to be about living in the woods and eating food from a can and leaving your beer in the river’s water for it to cool. It’s not about bringing your lamp and your bed with you, you should be sleeping in a sleeping bag. This is really no fun at all and you’d have to be a snob to want luxury in the forest inside your tent…

I agree with you there Wanda. Whenever I go camping, I would every single thing behind. I usually go with my husband to get away from our tvs and computers and laptops and, if we could, we would also ditch our cell phones. Too bad that we still have to keep in touch with people back home so we can’t turn them off. We take some food and our tent, some folding chairs and a table, some can of soda and beer and playing cards to have some fun in the middle of nature. I feel really sorry when we have to go back home on Sunday evenings…
