Last year, Google purchased VoIP provider Gizmo5 in their attempt to make a Skype-like service, that is able to call traditional phone numbers. At then, it seemed that Google wanted to merge their Google Voice and Google Talk services. But since that time, Google had not provide anything that is significant in terms of VoIP services. Last week, the things have changed when TechCrunch reviewed a Mac, that presented a fabled version of Google Voice desktop client.

This looks pretty ready for release, even if at the beginning only the Beta version will be available. So, in order to make Google to release this version, a petition has started. It must collect 500000 signatures and it only started on July the third, so if you want Google to launch a new service, you are free to sign for this. The petition was signed in the first day only by 488 people, so their goal of 500000 seems a little unreachable. Even though the number of the signatures will not be reached, Google should take in consideration that the people want the Google desktop client. The website where you can sign the petition is giveusgvdesktop.com.

A petition signer had a great idea, to ask Google to develop a Desktop App until they are fully ready to release the solid VoIP application. I wonder if Google will ever read that petition. Anyway, I hope they’ll do, because a service like this would be of great help for Google users and especially for those who like to talk on the phone with hours. Google Voice was available on invitation only, but from now on this service is going to be used by all the americans living in the United States. Google Voice is well known for its voice features used in e-mails, but when the VoIP program will be fully released, the things will become even more attractive. The users will be able to speak at low prices with their dear ones and this only if they use the Google service. This is all you need.

Google Voice, as we know it, uses computers to write the voice messages into texts, which can be sent to the receiver via SMS or e-mail. The user can listen to his messages in any order he likes. These messages are accessible from any browser and are stored on Google’s servers. The individuals who are already using a Google e-mail address will find these messages in their Google Voice e-mail address, if they use one and also in their inbox with the regular e-mails. The Google user can store his contact’s phone numbers in addition to his contact list and can record multiple custom voice mail greetings in order to make the communication with the others more pleasant.

Google Voice can be used in two different ways. The first method allows the user to benefit of a conditional call forwarding and to keep your regular phone number. You can set up Google Voice on your phones and be able to receive voice messages from your friends and relatives. Google representatives are there for you if you encounter any problems in setting your Google Voice account onto your phone’s system. The second method that a user can follow is to replace his phone number. Sometimes, this variant is desired, but sometimes it is not. The user will get a Google Voice number and all his voice messages will be listened and directed to that specific number. The disadvantage is that all your friends will have to remember a new number related to you.

The good thing with Google Voice is that you can set, if you want, all the phones to ring when you receive a voice message. You can make the connection between Google Voice and your home number, your office phone or your mobile phone. The Google Voice website offers a lot more details about how to set a phone number to deliver the voice messages you receive. They have created a specific webpage for those who use smartphones, to make it easier for everybody which wants to use this system. Until Google will release the Google desktop client Web application, Google Voice can be of real help.
