Gucci’s Luxury Packing gets a Greener Makeover

Over 20 leading fashion brands, including Valentino, Versace and Prada have taken action against deforestation in Indonesian forests, as part of the Rainforest Action Network (RAN).

From the series of world top designers, now comes Gucci as well with  keeping their word and which announced that all of their luxury packing has been newly designed with FSC Certified paper and is now 100% recyclable. And they don’t stop here.

The newly designed luxury packing has been put through massive transformation; according to press release, the bags, boxes, tissue papers and others no longer include plastic laminate surfaces and ribbond and garment bags have been switched from polyester to cotton, as the bags provide now transparency to the message “This shopping bag is FSC certified and made of 100% recyclable material”.

The luxury brand settled in 1921 is also cutting down on excessive packing altogether, and shoes now will be packed in one flannel instead of two. In addition, gift boxes will only be given by request while Gucci is planning to replace all of its mannequins with the eco-friendly version, of course, made out of 100% recyclable raw material.

Apart from the eco-friendly policy applied in packings, Gucci is pursuing also energy-saving initiatives in their retail stores and by the end of the next year they hope they will gain a reduction of 1,400 tons of paper consumption and a reduction of about 4 million litres of gas oil consumption.

    I will never understand this need to pay tons of money to wear a piece of clothing with the Gucci name on it. You’d have to be an idiot to pay $20,000 for some jacket which is simple and dull.

    Ron, people that earn about $200,000 every month really don’t mind spending that much money on a jacket. Besides, Gucci clothes are of quality material and they are elegant and refined and make people look very important, giving both an elegant and a business look. Let people spend their money just the way they like it.
