Happy 5th Birthday, Mashable!
The story of Mashable.com started five years ago, when 19-year-old web technology consultant named Pete Cashmore wrote his first post on the site from his bedroom in Scotland.
His big wish was to get involved in the social media and technology space by covering web mash-ups, quite popular at the time. And the success was about to come for Pete, because he managed to sell his first advertisement for the site and a huge amount of readers started to visit the website.
A year later, in 2006, Mashable.com hired the first staff writer and the second year, in 2007, the site has 4 million monthly page views.
Now, 3 years later, Mashable is the most popular news site, having 30 million monthly page views, more than seven times over the success in 2007. With so many visits, the site covers large space from the social media space with the help of a full-staff of 30 writers and hundred of guest writers.
The Mashable Team invites you to join them in celebrating their 5th birthday by attending one of the local meetups. In the same time, they want to find out how and when you first started reading Mashable, and you can post the responses on Twitter, with #mashbday.
Happy B-Day, Mashable, and many, many years from now on!
