There are two types of teas to choose from, there are the brewed teas and then there are the bottled ones. As far as there are two different types it most certainly means that there are people that prefer one and then there are some other that prefer the other. It is important to know, before saying your opinion, the advantages of each one.

Lately the bottled teas are being labeled with their rich content of antioxidants, but it is widely known, from our parents times, that if you choose ta homemade tea, you will be far more satisfied and offered with better and healthier ingredients, than choosing to buy a bottled tea.

Some of the teas that are bottled contain such a small amount of needing antioxidants that the tea is

believed to have, that you will have to theoretically, drink 20 bottles to get the needing antioxidants. “There is a huge gap between the perception that tea consumption is healthy and the actual amount of the healthful nutrients — polyphenols — found in bottled tea beverages. Our analysis of tea beverages found that the polyphenol content is extremely low,” said study researcher Shiming Li, an analytical and natural product chemist at WellGen, Inc.

This is not just about the low intake of antioxidants, but as well about the sugar that may be found in some bottled beverages.

The study that explains the difference between the bottled and the brewed teas was presented on the course of yesterday, 22th August, at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston.

The antioxidants that were in the center of attention are some substances that protect cells against any damage that free radicals can do. They are important in preventing such disease as cancer, cardiovascular disease and as well dementia.

The researchers too six brands that made bottled tea and measured the level of polyphenols from the drink. More than half of them were poor in antioxidants, which more means that they actually did not have any antioxidants whatsoever. The rest of them had a little benefit percentage as they as well took into consideration the level of sugar that they contained.

The conclusion that they reached at was that these teas contained between 3 and 81 milligrams of polyphenols per 16 ounce bottle; in companions, to the home made brewed tea, which actually contains between 50 and 150 milligrams of polyphenols.

After water, tea is the next in line beverage consumed in the United States. Despite of the fact that some producers may actually write the amount of polyphenol on the bottle, most of the times those numbers are not correct.  Due to the fact that they may actually change their production processes, the polyphenol in the tea content may differ as well from one bottle to another. But, it is important to be near to the normal levels.

The overall conclusion to this is that homemade brewed tea is far more preferred than the bottled tea, which may actually not contain the proper amount of polyphenols that you need to intake.
