Hebron Attacks are to Affect Middle East Talks?
The eve of the talks between the two sides, was disturbed by the killings that took place near Hebron derail.
Four Israelis were killed on Tuesday, while they were walking on Highway 60, which is a route both use by the Palestinians and the Jewish settlers. The victims were two men and two women, out of whom one of them was pregnant. It was related that the shots took place from a vehicle.
The victims were proved to pertain to the Beit Haggai settlement.
The Hamas military wing was not afraid to declare its full responsibility for what happened in Hebron.
It is more than two years time since the two parties are trying to come at a common sense, and the meetings that are to be taking place on Thursday are the first direct talks that are held between the two of them. Anyhow, these meetings may strongly be influenced by the killings that took place yesterday.
The Israeli Prime minister, Benjamin Netahyahu had a closed door meeting with the US Secretary of States, Hillary Clinton and she reassured him once again that US will offer security to Israel. “We pledge to do all we can always to protect and defend the state of Israel and to provide security to the Israeli people,” Mrs Clinton said. This after, the White House condemned thoroughly the assassinations that took place, meanwhile adding as well, that all the parties involved must stay focused to achieve their main goal.
Under all the “peace” that is trying to be obtained between the two nations, it was ordered that there will be no diplomatic limitations into tracking down those murderers. Even the Palestinian Authority Prime Minister – Salam Fayyad, condemns the actions, saying that it was done against any Palestinian interests.
As they prepare for the talks that are about to take place on Thursday, President Barak Obama is to meet separately, during today, with Mr. Metanyahu and Mr. Abbas. They will discuss each side’s desires and he will therefore; know how to tackle with the situation. Apart from these two, President is to meet as well the King Abdullah of Jordan and the Egyptian President – Hosni Mubarak.
Mr. Abbas expressed his desire for peace: “Israel not to miss this historic opportunity for peace”, saying that “if there is only a 1% chance of achieving peace we will strive for it”. While, Mr. Netanyahu hopes for recognition of security, prosperity and stability peace.
On Thursday they will both be for the first time in a year in the same room, while discussing things further with Mrs. Hillary Clinton.
