Hospital Review due to Transplant Tragedy
A rare operation of liver transplant that occurred at a hospital in Colorado ended up with the death of the donor. This made them think further of the next transplants that they will be making. This hospital has actually decided to suspend liver donations from people that are actually still alive.
The more important thing that happened is that they were actually brothers. While Chad was in desperate need for a liver or he could not live any longer, his 34 year old brother, Ryan Arnold, decided to take it upon himself and to donate 60 percent of his liver to save his brother.
This is a relatively rare procedure, as since 1989, barely 4,126 such procedures were carried on in the United States, even though the need was for more, they are rather complicated and as well dangerous for the donors especially. This is why, until further researches into it and better discoveries, this hospital has decided to make a step backwards and to cease with this kind of surgery.
While Chad, aged 38 years old is at the moment recovering from the transplant, his brother died and was as well buried, leaving behind him a wife and three little children. A trust fund was opened in the regard of paying for the education of his three sons. Chad could not attend to his brother’s funeral but watched it via web cam. At the moment he is still in the hospital recovering, as his stomach is bloated and distended. “I think the fact that a lot of people are asking about how I’m doing says a lot of people are paying attention to the story and it actually helps me recover better because that means they’re paying attention to Ryan’s story,” Chad told local Fox affiliate, KDVR-TV.
The hospital has started an investigation to see into what exactly happened and to know who is to blame for this death. Apart from this the American Society of Transplant Surgeons was as well asked to look into this case.
A third brother of theirs admits that Ryan “He was a man of uncommon character and someone I looked up to,” Rod Arnold said. “What he did for Chad was really just an extension of how he lived his life.”
What this person did is to be highly regarded at but this thing was not intended to happen
