Will Hunger Game become the new Twilight?

Have you heard about the upcoming book-to-film adaptation “Hunger Games” yet? If no, here’s a little insight. It’s all about a dystopian society which sends its children (a boy and a girl actually), once a year, in a cage to fight to death!

Yes, they are thinking about making this book a movie. Still, the big question is if this series will beat “Twilight”. Possible answer: No. Why? Well, it’s not much of a brainer if you think about it. To beat “Twilight” and its big success among teenagers (and not only among them), such a book-to-film adaption like “Hunger Games” must have the following elements:

1 .The female lead must not be too strong of a character and she must NOT have a personality of her own. As you well remember, in “Twilight,” Bella Swan wasn’t really able to make decisions or to take actions. Without a colorless, flavorless female lead such as Bella Swan, girl readers have a hard time projecting themselves into the romance.

Well, in “Hunger Games,” things are a little bit different, as the main character is a very strong, well defined character, who hunts with her bow and arrow and who wouldn’t just fall in love with someone like, say Edward Cullen. Well, that’s true unless Edward knows how to hunt squirrels or boars or something.

2. There should always exist a super-strong and extremely handsome, borderline stalker of a male lead. If you think about it, you realize that this element is also very important. Remember how in “Twilight,” Edward was always taking the big decisions (like dating Bella or taking Bella out to dinner)? Well, to your disappointment, maybe, “Hunger Games” presents a pair of gentlemen suitors for Katniss (the female lead), but they both know better than to spy her while she is sleeping. Well, maybe if they want to get killed or something, they could try!

3. Overwrought romance. If you remember, the whole point of the “Twilight Saga” is to get Bella and Edward together. Well, this eventually happens and they live happily ever after. Things with “Hunger Games” is quite different, because these kids have no time for romance, as they must stay alert not to get killed!

4. Lead actors who always look so sad and lonely, but who are secretly dating. Kirsten and Rob were said to have dated for a while. Rumors had it that a few days ago Rob took her to dinner and then dumped her. Well, at least they were together. With the main leads of “Hunger Games” this won’t happen, as they are really too young for this dating game.

So, let’s check again to see if “Hunger Games” will be able to beat “Twilight”. Umph, no. But still, it’s a good book with very tightly plotted action stories, which will surely enjoy plenty of adoration at the box office. It just won’t spur the zombielike following we’ve come to expect from your more extreme Twilight fan.

I personally am a big fan of Twilight but I believe that the Hunger Games is a way more interesting and better series then Twilight. I think that it will be bigger then Twilight. I feel like the Hunger Games will entertain more people then Twilight did. It has action for the men/boys and a love between three people that the women/girls will eat up. It will attract a bigger range of people.

Ashleigh, first of all, I have to thank you for taking interest in this article. Then, I’m sure that Hunger Game will be very much appreciated and really well received. However, Hunger Games, unlike Twilight, points to a certain category of people. So, yes, I have to agree with you that it will be a big success and there will be a lot of people to enjoy it!

I was waiting for hunger games if it is right. The story is looking really good. But i can’t compare it with twilight or other movie. Twilight is a good movie and one of my favorite and its story line is different then hunger games. I am a big fan of twilight series and twilight games. So, it will not affect me if it would be a big hit.

Jack, thank you for your comment. It’s great to hear that a Twilight fan is anxious to see Hunger Games. I, too, think it’s going to be a big hit and can hardly wait to see it! Still, I’m very curious to see how Breaking Dawn will be translated into the film, as for me it was the best book out of the four! :D

I must confess that I liked the book “twilight” at that time and i still like it, why not?… but I was highly disappointed by the movie (I won’t get in details because there are lots of fans and I don’t want to upset them in any way, I just hate how they took a sweet story – not the best in the world, ‘cuz this is not the point, but one loved by a lot of people including me – and turned it into an awful movie with such crappy actors)

Now, talking about my new best interest “The Hunger Games” :x , well this is an amazing well written book with such a complex story, whit some amazing characters (and I must stop saying amazing but I can’t help it.. this book was AMAZING!!!), I just hope they won’t ruin it for me when they turn it into a movie.
I hope for some good actors (in fact that kind of actors that can ACT.. if it’s not that difficult for them to find) and if they look good too, well i’m gonna be more than happy :D And it’s needed a great production crew because there are lots of special effects needed.. I’m not gonna mention a good director because that’s a MUST.

so, yeah, there are twilight fans that can love even more “The hunger games” than the first one, and others love them the same or even less, but we are all free to love as many books as we want, and if you love another series too is not like you don’t like the others anymore, is just that you reach a new high point of liking.

For the ones that need this piece of advice:
People don’t fight over books, just enjoy them all and be happy!

PS: :x this should’ve been a heart or something, not an angry face or whatever that is :) ) because in case I didn’t make it clear: today I love the hunger games! (and I think I’m gonna love this series for a while)
