At 2:00 AM Monday morning in India a train Uttarbanga Express slammed into the Vananchal Express killing 56 people and injuring 120. The Railway Minister is almost certain that the crash was an act of sabotage by the Maoist rebels who two months ago killed 150 people in a derailment caused on purpose. The crash toke place at 125 miles away from Calcutta minutes after the train left the platform of the Sainthia Station.

The impact of the trains was so strong that the roof of one train flew in the air and landed on a bridge over the tracks. The accident destroyed 3 cars, 2 passenger cars where the lowest tickets were which usually are at maximum capacity, and a luggage car.

After the crash, concerned locals came and tried to help the passenger which were injured and released from under the debris the corpse of those who died in the accident. Later the rescue workers with heavy professional equipment, to cut through the twisted metal, joined the locals at the accident scene.

So far they found 56 dead and 120 injured people, said a police official named Surajit Kaur Purkayastha. The railway minister said that the two drivers of the Uttarbanga Express were among de 56 victims.

The locals said that the rescue team arrived at the accident scene after 3 hours. Humayun Kabir a police official declared to the NDTV television channel that the rescue team arrived at the accident site in less than an hour.

“For many hours it was just the local residents helping and it was very difficult to help without any equipment,” said an unknown man from the scene of the accident for NDTV television.

The rescue team still searches for survivors and now it s to early to tell an exact number of dead, there could be more under the wreckage of the train, said police official in West Bengal, Bhupinder Singh.

A government statement said that India’s Federal Home Ministry had immediately dispatched several hundred members of the National Disaster Response Force to the accident site to help with search operations.

On May 28, in the state of West Bengal, a passenger train derailed and was hit by a cargo train resulting 150 dead people. The Maoist rebels were held responsible for the sabotage of the train.

In India train accidents are happening very often because the Indian rail network is the biggest in the entire world and the maintenance of the rails is very poor.
