Germany is shook up these days by a stomach-turning sexual abuse case with incest aspects as a certain Detlef S. appeared on Tuesday before judge where he heard a letter written by his daughter, now 18, who is accusing him of rape and of “having made her life a living hell.”

The 48-year-old German truck driver who lives in the small town of Flutterschen, near Bonn, has been kept in prison since August, when his daughter came forward to authorities to tell her said story.

He was charged with 350 counts of sexual abuse against various persons, among which his daughter, stepdaughter and stepson, whose lives he made “a living hell” for 20 years, and for other 35 sexual counts for forcing his two daughters to have sex with many men for money, also taken in custody in the meantime, for paying minors to have sexual congresses.

The man who is already called “the German Fritzl,” alluding to the ghastly case in Austria, who was found guilty in 2009 of depriving his daughter of liberty for 24 years, is looking at up to 15 years if he is found guilty.

There was no plea entered at this point, which is the normal thing to do in this case in the German court of law, but the lawyer said that the defendant admitted, in a statement, to be the father of the eight children of his stepdaughter, something confirmed by the DNA test even before the trial.

The prosecutors told the court that the man began molesting his daughter at nine, and that after her 12th birthday he assaulted her on a regular basis.

He also abused his two stepchildren, and the juries are trying to establish whether he assaulted a daughter he has with his stepdaughter in 2004.

At a certain point, the judges were forced to evacuate the court of spectators in order to allow the victims to recount their terrifying experiences.

The trial will be resumed on Wednesday and a sentence is expected to be passed by the end of this month.
