American Sam Querrey downed top-seeded Andy Murray at Los Angeles ATP in a three-set match after losing the first one. The Scottish saw himself surpassed by the 22-year-old player who recovered a 5-7 first set loss. Although the second set seemed to be a bit harder for both of the players, the tie break ended 7-2 for the American who, from that point, started to look much more confident than before as the last set brought nothing but joy and delight to the Californian, winning it as a walk in the park with 6-3. Thus, Querrey won his fourth ATP Tour title in 2010 and sixth in his entire short career.

After the win, the 20th seeded in ATP has declared he can’t wait to come back the next year and win another home title, while the fourth seeded in ATP Andy Murray has congratulated his outstanding playing. Querrey said: “This is just a great tournament for me. I can’t wait to come back next year,” as the 23-year-old Scottish: “I’d like to congratulate Sam. He had tough matches this week and great job for coming through again. This is my very first time here in LA and I really enjoyed it.” The match ended with American’s break point save at 5-3, to overcome and win the title, too, and to become in the same time the second player after Spaniard Rafael Nadal who wins the most titles this year, the number one ATP collecting this year five cups, just one ahead of the American who now aims the top 10.

Querrey showed himself the happier the more his victory comes against one of the best players in the world, the Scottish looking always for the first position in ATP: “It feels great to finally get a win over him because I really hadn’t had a close match with him before this. So it’s nice to get that. Now I have the belief that if I can play him again I can maybe win or if I play another top-10 guy. Winning definitely gives you a lot of confidence, whether it’s professional or in the juniors or in the collegiate. The more you win, the better you’re playing and the more confidence you have. I definitely think this will help me win some bigger matches going forward.” For no doubt, Querrey targets now the same performance in the US Open which is expected to begin at the end of this month, his moral looking really good after collecting other three ATP titles this year, including here the Memphis title, Belgrade and the Queen’s in June.

Concerning this year’s performance, the American added: “This feels great. This is maybe the best I’ve ever felt. I’m really happy, really ecstatic. Hopefully it will be a great start to the summer. The more matches you win and titles you win, I think guys start to respect you more and fear you more so hopefully that’s the case.” Taking account that the San Francisco youngster is third best seeded American player in the ATP ranking, Querrey hopes to get higher the period to come, this already preparing for another US ATP Tour, in Washington which will take place between the 1st and 8th of August. The player claimed: “I’m proud of the way I’ve turned it around since then. I’m taking baby steps forward and hopefully, I’ll keep going up,” the next biggest aim for him to follow being the Master Series: “The next step is the Masters Series and the Grand Slam events. This tournament is a great stepping stone for those.”
