Lady Gaga Meat Dress Explained By Her Designer

Lady Gaga at the VMA's
Of course Lady Gaga was the center of attention in the Sunday Night ceremony that took place in Los Angeles. Lady Gaga did won on eight categories at MTV Video Music Awards, but this wasn’t the thing that made everyone talk about her. The dress that Lady Gaga wore was actually on everybody’s mind.
After creating outrage with her outfit in the cover of Japan Men’s Vogue magazine, when Gaga wore some meat bikini, she did it again on the night of the VMA’s. However, she opted for a meat dress this time, but the idea is quite the same. She even had some matching accessories, with meat boots, hat and purse. But, as you definitely saw some pictures of the already famous dress, you may have wondered how the dress was made, because despite the fact that it can be called outrageous, the dress was pretty original and it looked that someone has worked on designing it.
The designer, Franc Fernandez told MTV how the meat dress was made and explained how Lady Gaga’s dress can be recreated. “Go to your butcher, get some good cuts and start sewing,” he said. Well, probably there is more to it than that since the dress managed to overpass when it comes at debates two other gown, one made by Alexander McQueen and one by Giorgio Armani.
“I was approached by [fellow fashion stylist] Nicola Formichetti to create the look. It was planned over a week period,” Fernandez told MTV. “It’s always a pleasure working with Nicola and Gaga, the times I have. The process is very easy and quick,” he added. However, it seems that Gaga didn’t wear the dress so much, because the whole process was quick. “She wore it for as long as it was seen on TV with some additional press photos and for the Ellen show,” the designer explained, Gaga being present on Ellen DeGeneres’s show set after the VMA ceremony was over.

Anyway, Fernandez said that he was never worried that the dress will be damaged. “There’s been a big debate of whether it smelled or rotted under the lights,” he added. “Gaga herself said it smelled good, because it smelled like meat. I chose the right cuts to make sure the dress kept well.” Well, we have to admit that Franc Fernandez, who also participated at creating the outfits of the “Telephone” video, a Lady Gaga featuring Beyonce single, is very creative. He designed Lady Gaga’s diamond outfit from her many times awarded “Bad Romance” video.
What will happen to the meat dress? Fernandez said that it will probably be put in Lady Gaga’s dress archive, although it won’t last for long. “The dress will be put in an archive with all of her dresses. The Gaga Archives, I suppose. It won’t last, that’s the beauty of it. When it is brought out again, hopefully it will be in a retrospective, and it will be a different dress, which is the best thing. I like the idea of it changing and evolving into something else,” he said. Can you imagine what dresses Gaga has in her own “dress archive”?11
