Lisa Marie Presley To Talk About Michael Jackson’s Death
There have passed about sixteen months since the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Although the Jackson family refused to talk about the late singer, it seems that many confessions related to the death of the star are going to be made in the following weeks.
Earlier this month many reports indicated a presence of Oprah’s crew at the Jackson’s family property to interview the mother of the late singer, Katherine Jackson and Michael’s three young children. Although not all the family members are ready to talk to the media, as Randy Jackson said to be very disappointed that Katherine allowed Oprah to interview her grandchildren, because Michael wouldn’t have wanted that, as Randy considers, some seem to be ready to share their feelings regarding the King of Pop, his life and death.
Lisa Marie Presley, Michael Jackson’s ex-wife decided to open up about her marriage to the star for the first time after his death, on Oprah show. Presley, aged 42, was on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Thursday. She said that she didn’t understand her relationship with Michael, a marriage that lasted only 18 months. However, regarding Michael’s marriage to Lisa Marie, many comments were made and their union was considered by some a sham. But, Presley told Oprah they had a real relationship, and she added that she understands why Jackson’s behavior might have determined people think it wasn’t a normal marriage. “In every sense it was a normal marriage,” she said.
Lisa Marie Presley said that Michael was a “master at manipulating the media,” adding that she understands that people, without knowing, assumed some things about their marriage, but, “manipulation was a survival tactic” for Michael. Presley also said that Michael wanted to have a child and he pressured her to have a baby, baby she also wanted, by she decided to wait and see first how things work because she never wanted to find herself in a custody battle with Michael Jackson. However, she said that they had many arguments, but Michael really tried sometimes to make their marriage work. And only two months after the two divorced, Debbie Rowe announced to be pregnant with Michael’s child. “She was there the whole time telling him that she would have his child,” Lisa Marie said. And she added that Michael told her several times that Debbie is willing to have his child.
Michael Jackson died in June 2009. Only after his death, Presley said to have come to understand him again, but she added that she doesn’t know why it took so much time for her to understand that Michael loved her. Presley and Michael Jackson divorced in January 1996 after marring in May 1994. “I felt that we were so united, and then at some point he pushed me out,” she revealed. And this distance that began being constant between the two was, according to Presley, due Jackson’s increased drugs use, on which the star was willing to keep the secret. She recalled an incident when Michael actually had to be taken to the hospital and said she realized the situation in which Michael was right before filing for divorce. She wasn’t able to say what was really happening to Michael and she couldn’t find out from the star, so, “I think we were all a little bit in the dark,” Presley said.
Lisa Marie Presley went to ask herself if there is something she could have done differently, something that could have saved her former husband’s life, adding that she wishes to have saved him. “I know it’s naive to think that I could have, but I wanted to,” she admitted. “Had I made a call, had I stopped being so shut off from him, had I just said ‘How are you?’ I really regret that I didn’t.” She also told Oprah that she was in “floods of tears” when she heard about the death of the pop singer and she regrets not doing more for him.
The one hour long interview with Oprah was recorded at Lisa Marie’s home in England. She is now married to guitarist Michael Lockwood. At the end of the interview she said that this was the last time to talk about Michael and she will never accept to give an interview about the star again. Michael Jackson died in June 25, 2009, at the age of 50 after an overdose of the powerful sedative Propofol, the singer having a history of prescription drug abuse.
Lisa Marie Presley said she received the news about Michael’s death from John Travolta, who sent her a text message. She confessed that she decided to talk only now about her former husband because she wasn’t able to do it earlier. Presley told Oprah in her interview that the last time she had a proper conversation with Michael was in 2005, when she started being even more distant to the singer.
Well, Lisa Marie Presley also said something regarding one of Michael fears. She told Oprah that the singer asked her if she still loves him and she told him she “was indifferent and he didn’t like that word.” Anyway, in that conversation Michael told Lisa Marie that “someone was going to try and kill him to get a hold of his catalog and estate. And I really didn’t know what to do with that,” she added.11
