Germany coach Joachim Loew was set these days for another two-year-deal due to team’s remarkable performance during the World Cup tournament in South Africa. The 50-year-old manager powered the Germans into the third place playoff, using plenty of young players who performed one of the most wonderful football in South Africa. Both Loew’s assistant Hans Dieter Flick and team manager Oliver Bierhoff, former Germany’s striker were also set for the new contract, the two helping Loew to produce another great performance, but for the European Championship this time which will take place in both Poland and Ukraine two years from now. It will be for the first time in the last twenty years for two Eastern Europe countries to host this tournament.

Concerning the new deal he was proposed to take charge of, Joachim Loew thanked to those who trusted him along the South African tournament and for those who will support from now on his team work: “I will say thanks for these uncomplicated talks. We’re looking forward to our work with the team and the DFB.” The coach showed himself very confident regarding his team who will meet Loew in few days to establish what things need  to be improved: „After the World Cup I was a bit exhausted. Now I will meet with my team in the next few days to figure out what kind of new ideas we can establish. We have a lot of ideas and we see a lot of potential.” Concerning the captaincy scadal that was launched during the African tournament when Michael Ballack left the team once Phillip Lahm was chose to take the armbrand (as no-one knew for how long), the coach explained he’ll talk with the players letting them know his personal decision: „I have not made up my mind on this, it’s important for me to speak to the players and let them know my decision personally.”

German Football Federation President Theo Zwanziger also expects Loew to provide another remarkable performance: „We expect that Jogi Loew and his team will continue their excellent work. We now have a great basis for that. We have young talented players which reached world class level during World Cup 2010 and we have a coach who fits. I am very proud that we managed to reach this situation. Our confidence was affirmed.” Die Mannschaft started their South African World Cup tournament with an humiliating score against Australia as many thought the team couldn’t provide another similar victory, taking account Australia is not one of the strongest team. But Loew side did it again with two of the main favorites for the trophy, England and Argentina as no-one expected to see such determination against such powerful teams on their own.

Although Serbia beat Germany in the second match in group D, Loew’s boys finished top of the group to meet England in the round of 16 phase. It was probably the most unpredictable result at that time, the Germans defeating Capello’s side with a clear 4-1 as the English went home earlier than expected. However, Germany’s football reached “its most” in the quarter finals when the same young and powerful Mannschaft smashed Maradona’s number one favorite side with an outstanding 4-0 result which made both Argentina’s coach and star Messi sink in cry drops. The semi final didn’t look the same, quite at all, Germany struggling in front of European Champions Spain to score at least one goal. Vicente del Bosque’s boys looked more confident and made a real football demonstration that made anyone think they are the ones who deserve the trophy. Spain defeated Loew’s side with 1-0 to reach the big final.

The Germans consoled themselves with the Bronze Medal after defeating Uruguay in the third place playoff with 3-2 in a very delightful match. Apart from the very deserving medal, Germany produced also the Golden Boot award Thomas Muller was elected the best young player at the tournament, this one being also top of the best scorers list in South Africa, Bayern’s striker scoring five goals.
