Main Suspect Arrested In Mattapan Massacre
Almost two moths after four men lost their lives and a fifth was seriously injured, police finally has a new lead in this case. A man was arrested on Monday and charged with murder for his involvement in what came to be known as the Mattapan massacre. The suspect is the 33-years-old Dwayne Moore, who was living in the same neighborhood and who was charged with four with four counts of murder and one count of assault with intent to murder. He is expected to appear before the Dorchester District Court on Monday.
Moore is the only suspect in this case, after the man previously arrested was charged only with firearms violations. Moore is not at his first crime. Some fourteen years ago he was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 15 to 18 years behind bars. He was accused of stabbing to death the 17-years-old Keema Jarius Braxton at a party in Mattapan, after he had challanged the teen to a fight. Braxton refused to fight and, scared, pulled a knife to defend himself. Moore wrestled the teen and took his knife from him, fatally stabbing Braxton in the neck. The man was released from Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley in April and only a few moths later he committed another killing.
The Mattapan massacre took place on September the 28th, early in the morning, after what is believed to have been a drug deal gone bad. Four persons were shot dead, including a 2-year-old child, who was shot through the heart in the arms of his mother. Another man was seroiusly injured and is still on life support. A first suspect was arrested several days after the killing and admitted to the police that two firearms seized from his mother’s apartment a day after the killings belonged to him. He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and marijuana, and one count of receiving a stolen motor vehicle and is still behind bars.
The mass killing was the climax of a year full of deadly violence throughout the city. According to the statistics, there have been 69 homicides in Boston so far this year, with some 25 more than last year. The last crime that got the publicʼs attention was a triple-homicide that took place on Sunday in Jamaica Plain.
According to the police, three man apparently got into an argument inside a restaurant, but their altercation escalated and erupted into a gunfire in and outside the restaurant. When they arrived at the scene, policemen found one man suffering from stabwounds and another one with gunshot wounds. Both of them died minutes later. A third victim was hit by the gunfire and taken to a hospital in stable condition, but he died on Monday afternoon, while a woman believed to be an innocent passer-by was trated and released after a bullet apparently grazed her leg.
