As a result of the many discussions and debates on the subject of child nutrition, lawmakers and researchers joined to convince Congress to approve an 8 billion dollar bill that is meant  to increase funds for lunch programs in schools. The request has been the subject of many pros and cons, and some researchers say that these programs are not properly evaluated, so that the huge investment should wait until a complete analysis will be made. Since the economic situation of the united States is not at its best, some people argue that such a big investment is a total loss of money.

There were child nutrition programs developed by the Department of Agriculture, and they should be reauthorized, but this is possible only with the help of the 8 billion dollar bill, and Tom Vilsack, the Secretary of Agriculture, says that it is not going to be easier to do it the next years if we do not do it now.

This initiative belongs to Michelle Obama, the first lady of the White House and is intended to fight childhood obesity and hunger. The program involved Tom Colicchio, the celebrity chef that “designed” the new lunch concept, and which declared that kids that tried the healthy school lunch loved it.

One Response to Michelle Obama involved in child nutrition program

  1. Anabelle Martins says:

Congratulations to Michelle Obama for this lovely initiative. The problem with obese children in the US is not new and we are a country that has been facing this problem for quite a long time now. It is time we paid great attention to the nutrition of our children not necessary because we want them to look good, but because this is a health issue which needs to be solved and quickly. Body fat can lead to problems, including respiratory failures and other heart damage. I truly support this initiative and if we can make any donations, let us know how.

    Signed, a concerned mother.
