More Teenage Girls in US Use Botox
Botox injections are nowadays administrated to 13 years old girls and more and more girls ask for the procedure every year. In the US the numbers have increased and over 12,000 procedures were performed on teenagers last year. Well, not all of them used the Botox injections with cosmetic purposes, some of the teens using it for medical purposes, but however specialists consider that things have gotten very serious.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons a great number of teenagers use Botox because they want to improve their looks or to correct it in the shortest time possible. For example, the skin procedure is used by teens to correct imperfections, which can be seen more as a matter of taste than an actual problem, such as “’too gummy smile” or “a square jaw”.
How teens got the idea? Well, again celebrities are to blame. The fact that girls that appear on TV, that are actresses or singers say in public that they use Botox injections, even if they are still very young, makes girls all over the world believe that the new trend should be followed. If celebrities use it and they look so good, it might be worth to try, this is what many teens should be thinking when opting for the treatment.
Charice Pempengco is one of the actresses that admitted using Botox. She is one of the most popular child celebrities in Philippine and she is considered to be a model by many teens. She is only 18 years old and maybe this should say it all. Why does she need at 18 Botox injections? “I want to look fresh when I appear before the camera,” the Filipina actress who is preparing for some new serials declared.
And in the attempt to look fresh in front of the camera she had both Botox injections and a skin tightening procedure, called Thermage. However, even though at first she admitted that she used Botox and it was just because she wanted to look better, afterwords because of the negative reactions she started, with people calling her “sick”, the 18 year-old decided to change a little bit things, saying that she never took the Botox for cosmetic reasons. Well, if you wanted to believe her, think again. Her doctor, Vicki Belo, declared on TV that the girl believed she looked too fat on her televised appearances and this is why she opted to get an intervention. But, unfortunately although she is one of the girls that opted to use this treatment for her “imperfection”, she is not the only one. In the United States more than four million people use Botox interventions each year and teens make no exception.
The use of Botox has been approved by The Federal Drug Administration and everyone who is aged over 12 can have them. Probably specialists decided to do so because Botox can be used to treat some conditions as excessive sweating. Well, celebrities have been the ones giving Botox a whole new image and they can also be called responsible for the use of the injections and its increase.
But, probably many don’t realize that Botox use can have many negative effects, “Botox can be dangerous if not regulated properly. This trend of “teen toxic” has a potential for unnecessary complications from untrained injectors who are not physicians, a specialists declared for the Daily Mail. “Most teens are wrinkle free and Botox does not prevent natural aging. Unless there is compelling need, it should not be administered under age 18,” he added.
Why do teens opt to use Botox? Well, specialists consider that the majority of them don’t actually have a problem, it is more a self esteem issue and probably some external influence, but however, parents should never approve it. Well do you agree? Or should teens be using Botox as a normal thing to do?11
