I am certain that you have heard about Michel de Nostredame, also known as Nostradamus, or more precisely about his predictions. He is best known about his prophecies, which have caused lots of debate.

Some say that he did not predict certain things, mostly because what he said was very vague. Some say that only after certain events happened, the people made the connection between those events and what he predicted. On the other hand, there are some people who say that he really was able to predict the future. Decide for yourself, as these are his most popular prophecies.

The French Revolution

“From the enslaved populace, songs,
Chants and demands
While princes and lords are held captive in prisons.
These will in the future by headless idiots
Be received as divine prayers”

This one could be applied to the French Revolution, as the peasants were against the aristocracy. The prison can be interpreted as Bastille, which was a place where the people were tortured. On the other hand he could have just take a wild guess that the population will start to rebel against the aristocracy.

The London Fire

The blood of the just will commit a fault at London,
Burnt through lighting of twenty threes the six:
The ancient lady will fall from her high place,
Several of the same sect will be killed.

This is more straightforward, as he mentions the city where the fire took place and he also mentions the number “six”. The fire took place in 1666 and six people lost their lives back then.

The death of Princess Diana

The penultimate of the surname of Prophet
Will take Diana [Thursday] for his day and rest:
He will wander because of a frantic head,
And delivering a great people from subjection.

This is one of the rare instances when Nostradamus used names in his poems. In case you did not know, Dodi Al-Fayed’s father was nicknamed “the Prophet.”

Hurricane Katrina

The cities of Tours, Orleans, Blois, Angers, Reims and Nantes
Are troubled by sudden change.
Tents will be pitched by (people) of foreign tongues;
Rivers, darts at Rennes, shaking of land and sea.

I have to say, this seems far stretched, as all those cities mentioned are from France. Prior to the 2005 incident, the people thought that the poem referred to France. This is one of the reasons why some do not believe that he was able to predict the future. If something similar will happen in the next years, people will say that he referred to that event.

The deaths of JFK and RFK

The great man will be struck down in the day by a thunderbolt,
An evil deed foretold by the bearer of a petition.
According to the prediction, another falls at night time.
Conflict at Reims, London and a pestilence in Tuscany.

Some say that the thunderbolt is an analogy for gun, and that the great man is none other than JFK. The other man who falls is said to be his brother. What about Reims, London, and Tuscany? The poem is too vague in my opinion.

The Atomic Bomb

Near the gates and within two cities
There will be scourges the like of which was never seen,
Famine within plague, people put out by steel,
Crying to the great immortal God for relief.

It is very difficult to dispute this poem. First of all there were two cities that suffered because of the bomb: Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The atomic bomb was never seen before. Even so, there are some people who say that the poem is too vague. Since Nostradamus was born in the 16th century, many other bombs, and wars could have been used for this poem. Many conflicts occurred since his time, and many weapons were first seen since then.

9/11

Earthshaking fire from the center of the Earth
Will cause tremors around the New City.
Two great rocks will war for a long time,
Then Arethusa will redden a new river.

This one is very difficult to interpret, as it is very vague. First of all people believe that Nostradamus talked about the 9/11 events because he mentioned the term “New City”. The term is too vague, as Los Angeles, Tokyo, or any other city could have been the New City. The two great rocks are supposed to be the Twin Towers. The war part does not apply, as it does not make sense. It seems like he was referring to two castles, or something similar. I am almost certain that if you read this poem prior to 9/11, you would have though about a volcanic eruption or about an earthquake. On top of that, when he wrote the poem such things are planes or skyscrapers were far from being invented. Even if he saw them, it is very unlikely that he would have been able to explain them.

Hitler and World War II

From the depths of the West of Europe,
A young child will be born of poor people,
He who by his tongue will seduce a great troop;
His fame will increase towards the realm of the East.

The two greatest ones of Asia and of Africa,
From the Rhine and Lower Danube they will be said to have come,
Cries, tears at Malta and the Ligurian side.

It is said that the first poem refers to Hitler. If you think about it, some things make sense, as he was poor, he has the skills to get people by his side, and he went towards East. He also mentioned the word “Hister” in the original writing, which means the Danube. This is the main reason why the people associate this poem with Hitler.

The End of Days

The world was supposed to end in 1994, then in 2000, and now in 2012. However if you believe in what Nostradamus said, then you should be relieved, as he stated that the end of the world will be in 3797. Enjoy your life!
