World number one Rafa Nadal continued – the same manner Roger Federer did so far – his clean progress at the US Open by reaching the semi final after defeating compatriot Fernando Verdasco in straight sets 7-5, 6-3, 6-4. Thus, both the Spaniard champion and the Swiss go further without losing any set so far at Flushing Meadows. Now that he got one step closer, too, to the dream final Nadal may be part of the history for completing in a row all the four Grand Slams in circuit. He won so far the French Open and the Wimbledon. If he wins in New York, too, this will be just one tournament left, the Australian Open which takes place in January in Melbourne, in order to collect the big tournaments.

Still, the US Open is the only Grand Slam the Spaniard didn’t win yet. He reached though three consecutive semi finals at Meadows. “It’s very important for me to make the semi-finals again. It’s very nice to be in the semi-finals three times in a row at one of the most important tournaments of the world, probably for me right now the most important,” top seeded declared. Furthermore, Nadal lost just one serve at the American Open in yesterday’s game against the same Verdasco. Thus, he stopped his 62 consecutive serve holds. He also saved 13 break points. The Spaniard admitted the quarter final was the toughest round he played so far here. “It was very difficult to play, one of the more difficult days. The serve was important, but it was difficult to control the ball on the toss. This was an important victory for me,” he said. As for the other half of the table lie both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, second and third seeded who will dispute their meeting in weekend.

The Swiss smashed older rival Robin Soderling in straight sets, too, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 to fight not only against a very aggressive Swedish, but also against windy conditions. Roger focused on the serve which went very well. He powered 18 aces, unlike Soderling’s two. This praised finally the Swiss to identify his capability of playing under every weather conditions. The fifth seeded couldn’t adjust that well though and left the quarter finals with no set won.” Given the circumstances, Roger played well.  He’s a good wind player.  He can play really well in the wind.  He moves well.  He’s always in the right place.  So I think he played well,” he said. Both Roger and Rafa made a step forward to the dream final. They proved once again everyone they still remain the best two players of the moment.
