Singer Nelly Furtado has decided to donate the money she obtained after performing for Libyan leader Muammar al Qaddafi’s family in 2007.

The popular Canadian singer says she received the sum of $1 million back in 2007 after a performance for some al Qaddafi family members. However, Nelly Furtado is determined to donate the money she received to charity. And her gesture must be appreciated mostly because she definitely is not the only one who has received money from performances for the al Qaddafi family. However, she seems to be the only one who has decided to share the fact that she got paid, and with a really high sum of money, sharing the information on her Twitter page, while other stars decided to remain quite.

“In 2007, I received 1million$ from the Qaddafi clan to perform a 45 min. Show for guests at a hotel in Italy,” Nelly Furtado wrote on Twitter on Monday. “I am going to donate the $,” she added according to CBS news and probably her reasons are linked to the fact that she got the money from family members of Libyan dictator Muammar al Qaddafi. The star received the money after a private 45 minutes performance that took place at an event held in Italy about four years ago.

So, who are the other celebrities that have received money for performing at different events hosted by the Qaddafi clan? Well, reports indicate that Beyonce and Usher were there for the family’s New Year’s Eve party, event that actually took place on the Caribbean island of St. Barts. Mariah Carey also performed for a party that was held before the New Year’s Eve. And if Nelly Furtado received $1 million for her work, it seems that Beyonce was paid double, the star reportedly receiving the sum of $2 million for her performance. And while some performed, others were at the party only to attend the event. It seems that Russell Simmons, Lindsay Lohan, Jon Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, Miranda Kerr and Victoria Slivstedt were there at the show putted together by Beyonce, but there is no word on whether they got paid to make an appearance or not. 50 Cent also performed for the family, back in 2005 at a film festival.

Well, despite the scandal and the claims made in the media and also the criticism on the stars that have been there at different events organized by the Qaddafi family, other celebrities have not shown their desire to donate the money they received from performing at such events. But, now that Nelly Furtado was the first one to make such an announcement, maybe others will follow. Still, the star did not mention to which charity the money are going to be given, although she expressed her desire to donate them after admitting to have received $1 million for her performance.
