No Americans in ATP Top 10
It is for the first time since computer ranking began in tennis in 1973 for the US not to have any of the players among the best ten in the world. Due to Andy Roddick’s recent poor performance, but also Isner’s and Sam Querrey’s, the powerful serve player downed two positions on the 11th in ATP, while his compatriots Isner and Querrey lie on the 19th and 21st place. Roddick was overcame by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who gained 3455 points this season as the American only 3235, but able to make the comeback if he progresses in superior phases in one of the next tournaments.
Despite he has collected two titles at the beginning of this season, Roddick couldn’t maintain up in the top ten the period it followed, starting to lose early rounds in vary competitions. However, he can finally praise himself with Brisbane’s title, which was also the first tournament of the year, taking place on 3rd of January. Roddick couldn’t win another trophy until March when he took the Miami Masters trophy that seemed to assure him a place in the top ten until the end of the season. Concerning his compatriots, John Isner, who is already known as the player that made history playing the longest tennis match in history at Wimbledon against French Mahut, won the Auckland title in January but didn’t reach any of the top ten places too long. Not even Mardy Fish’s double-performance wasn’t enough for the Americans to reserve one of the best places in ATP, the player winning Newport and recent Atlanta ATP Tour trophies as he lies now on the 34th place.

The only American who won three titles this year, but still not enough to bring a place among the best ten is Sam Querrey. The player started the season in very good shape, winning the Memphis ATP Tour in February when he defeated Isner in three sets, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3. Surprisingly, Querrey won his second title in Belgrade where he played against the same compatriot Isner, beating him in another three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4. It was all the American businesses this season for Querrey. His final trophy was taken at the Queens ATP, where he still didn’t give any chances to his compatriots, winning the final against Mardy Fish in two uneasy sets, 7-6, 7-5.
