Nokia's C7 phone

Of the many Symbian^3 running handsets that Nokia has released in the last period of time, few of them have actually made it as far as store shelves so far. After multiple delays, the flagship N8 started shipping at the end of last month. Following its example, the Nokia C7 will soon become available for purchase. Nokia has recently announced that the C7 has started shipping towards retailers. The handset was launched less than one month ago along with the Nokia C6-01.

Another thing that can be said about the Nokia C7 is that it’s the first device out of the C series range of smartphones to include the new version of Symbian OS. A social networking device at heart, the C7 sports a stainless steel casing and a full-touch design. It features a 3.5 inch AMOLED display and will offer its users easy updates from Facebook and Twitter which can be viewed directly on the home screen. Users will also get one touch access to most popular e-mail accounts including Ovi Mail, Yahoo! Mail and Windows Live Hotmail. As most other smartphones that are up for sale nowadays, the C7 gets even better once you add apps, games, videos or web and location-based services through the Ovi Store.

“The Nokia C7 is our second smartphone based on the new version of Symbian to hit the market,” says Jo Harlow, Head of Smartphones at Nokia. “Designed specifically with the style-conscious consumer in mind, the Nokia C7 also brings excellent social networking abilities, making it perfect for people who want to check-in and stay up to date.”

Social networking is really nothing if you aren’t able to share photos, right? That’s why the C7 comes with an 8 megapixel camera on the back with HD video recording capabilities and enough storage space for all types of content.  The short promotional video that you can see right below does a pretty good job of showcasing the phone’s most important features.

While it’s clear that the C7 has a lot to offer, we can’t help but be interested in how much it costs since, at the end of it all, the price of a device matters a lot. According to Nokia, this new social networking friendly smartphone is estimated to retail for EUR 335 before taxes and subsidies. The manufacturer also notes that the actual price tag will vary depending on the country and wireless carrier where it’s being sold.

How better to celebrate the release of a new product then with a contest? That’s what Nokia though too. The company will hold a contest to find the most active Facebook users from the fans it has already gathered on the social networking site. Five finalists will be chosen and they’ll each be equipped with a Nokia C7 to organize a party by using several social networks. The user who manages to generate the most coverage with updates and posts through Facebook will get to actually win a Nokia C7. But here comes the twist, they’ll win a C7 for them and 20 of their friends. Now that’s a pretty interesting prize.
