An organization in South Korea, claiming to be made of more than 100 former North Korean soldiers, vow to overthrow Pyongyong’s government and to unify the Korean Peninsula.

The organization is called the North Korean Peoples Liberation Front and claims to be supported by some military officials in the North Korean regime, but analysts think is highly unlikely to be so.

Dressed in camouflage equipment they stood in the rain and shouted their quest for liberation of North Korea. “The souls of those who starved to death curse Kim Jong-il,” they were saying.

The leader of the group made a statement in which he condemned the leader of the Communist republic and then staged him a mock execution.

The group said they would leave the overthrowing of the government to the conspirators inside the country, especially to military officers which were dismissed from the army. They made this accusations and threats on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the Communist regime.

However, the analysts consider that although the militaries in question are more aware than anyone else of the situation in North Korea, they should be realistic and understand that the actual overthrowing of the regime is highly unlikely for the time being.

Some South Korean scholars consider that South Korean support for such a group could only worsen the relations with Pyongyang, which are already very tensioned.

Actually, the South didn’t take any official stand on the matter, except for a statement made by an official of the Unification Ministry, who maintained he wasn’t speaking for attribution, and said that everyone is free to speak in the country as long as they don’t break the law.

Some people think things don’t add up because if these soldiers have connections in their country they shouldn’t reveal that.

The human rights activists consider North Korea one of the most repressive states in the world, where people can be condemned to very many years in prison for speaking against the regime.

This defection of former military officers of the North Korean regime comes at a time when in Pyongyang a rare political gathering of the only party in the country is expected to begin soon, which could elect, for the first time in three decades, new leaders.

One of them is supposed to be the third son of Kim, Kim Jong-eun, who is expected to be elected as supreme leader of the party. To that end, he and his father paid a visit to China in a region where the celebrated Kim Il-sung, the founder of North Korean, father of the actual president, attended primary school.

Some believe Kim went there to attach his son to the legendary figure of his father, and to put some popular pressure on those who are about to participate in the gathering proposed to take place soon.

Kim Jong-eun is expected to enter the ranks of the North Korean Communist Party, although he is perfectly unknown in his country, and very little known abroad.

U.S. military experts affirm that they are unaware of any dissatisfaction within the North Korean military ranks, which would contradict the assertion of the group in Seoul. That leads us to think that it is possible that they may be “on a mission,” maybe the mission to strike fear in the hearts of the “comrades” expected to attend the party’s gathering.
