Paris Hilton Avoids Jail
Paris Hilton has done it again. She managed to avoid jail by pleading guilty in the case of cocaine arrest that took place last month in Las Vegas.
At the Monday hearing Paris Hilton pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges. And this was actually the way in which the 29 years old singer, actress and reality star managed to stay away from jail. She acknowledged that she had the drugs in her purse and that she lied to the police about the cocaine bag no being hers.
Which was her sentence after all? Well, Paris was simply ordered to serve a year of probation and to complete a drug abuse program. The star was also asked to pay a $2,000 fine and to serve 200 hours of community service, the Associated Press reported.
“The purpose of this is that you change your conduct,” Judge Joe Bonaventure told Paris during the hearing so, probably this is why she was left with no jail sentence, but he also warned the star that she must respect the probation term because any other legal issues or arrests can bring her to prison. “I assure you that the Clark County Detention Center is not the Waldorf-Astoria,” the judge said. However, she wasn’t give a probation officer which means that even if she violates the terms of the probation no one will be there to witness it and report it, of course if she is not arrested again. So, Paris will not have to report to anyone.
“I said that the purse wasn’t mine to the officer”, Paris Hilton told the judge and you should know that first, the star didn’t wanted to admit that she was the owner of the purse, although she admitted then that she had bought it months earlier asking for some of the objects contained in it such as money and credits cards which were hers. So what Paris was saying then was that the rolling papers, $1300 in cash and several credit cards in the bags were hers, but not the bag.
But now, “Miss Hilton accepts her responsibility,” as her lawyer, David Chesnoff, who has also represented Lindsay Lohan, told the court. “I know Ms Hilton is contrite and accepts the responsibility for her actions,” he added also saying that she will volunteer with animal rights groups and children’s hospitals. Anyway, the prosecutor was pleased with the results of the trial saying to the judge that they only asked for the star to change her behavior. “Our main concern is that Ms Hilton stays out of trouble,” he said.
The arrest took place on August 26 when Paris Hilton and her boyfriend Cy Waits were pulled over in Las Vegas. Paris was charged for the position of 0.8 grams of cocaine, drugs that fell out of her Chanel purse when she was looking for a lip balm in front of the officers. She managed to get away without a jail sentence.
But, will Paris manage to stay a whole year out of troubles? She got arrested many times, the last one involving drugs and happening at the World cup when Paris was charged with marijuana possession. In that case the charges against her were dropped because a woman who was with her pleaded guilty to have been carrying the drug. So, isn’t it too much for Paris to avoid problems and respect the probation terms?11
