Positive HIV/AIDS Message from Annie Lennox
The singer and the songwriter, Annie Lennox, sustains the battle that people suffering of HIV/AIDS are obliged to lead every day. She proudly wears the “HIV positive” black t-shirt.
In the TED Global Conference that was held last month in Oxford England the singer was present eager to sustain her point of view and commit to everything that implies battling HIV/AIDS. She strongly believes that maintaining a campaign as visual as possible, will arise other people’s awareness about this issue as well.
What did inspire her? Nelson Mandela statement about offering support to fight the virus by the 46664 Foundation, made in 2003. The number the virus was granted is the Nelson Mandela number from prison. That was when South Africa confronted with losing 1,000 people per day in the face of AIDS and the vast majority of them were women and children. Those were the times when South Africa confronted itself with a real genocide from this disease.
She came to this conference especially as her being a woman and a mother as well. As an ambassador for U.N AIDS, she announced that the aim
of this organization is to put a stop to the transmission of HIV from mother to child, until 2015.
Her fight against this disease goes back to 2007, when she organized a group of 23 female performers to make “Sing” and all the benefits of it were given to the fight against AIDS/HIV problem. In 2008 she was as well, honored with the Services to Humanity Award by the British Red Cross.
As the people from the Western countries live in a different world, she expects that they will understand the needing for providing help to those that are less fate fortunate. Helping solve this situation, according to Annie Lennox, does not stay in doing charity acts, but in securing human rights.
