Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Engaged
The marriage of Prince William of Wales to Kate Middleton takes another step forward as spokesmen for the British monarchy announced on Tuesday that the two are engaged.
According to the statement made by Clarence House, the official residence of the prince, the couple is expected to be married in the spring or summer of 2011.
Prince William, second in line to the throne of Great Britain, proposed during a vacation to Kenya in October.
The prince has informed the Queen and close relatives of the royal family about his intentions to get married, and has also asked the permission of Miss Middleton’s father.
The two met eight years ago when they were both students at The University of St. Andrew, in Scotland.
They are both 28, and broke up twice since they’ve known each other; the announcement that the couple will get married represents the fulfilling of a pact made by the two lovers three years ago in the Seychelles islands.
Rumors about the royal wedding have been stoked by the visit Kate Middleton’s parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, paid to Balmoral, the Queen’s estate in Scotland, for a weekend of shooting organized by Prince William with the queen’s permission.
It was the first time the Middleton family was invited to such a royal gathering.
After they get married, the couple is supposed to live in north Wales, where Prince William is serving in the Royal Air Force.
