Pursuit for Treating Alzheimer Failed
The Indianapolis Company, Eli Lilly has been trying to develop a medicine that will be able to treat the Alzheimer sufferers. Anyhow, according to their latest results that were not quite positive, as rather more negative, they actually put a stop to the development of this drug.
What were the actual results? Well there were patients that actually had worse scenarios than they used to have, before taking the medicine. Far from being a cure it is actually a drug that makes you feel worse. After having invested million of dollars in the drug and of course losing this money, they admitted the fact that they were beaten in this fight. Anyhow, according to the Chairman of Lilly, this does not signify that the company should cease developing important drugs in order to find cures for serious illness.
They are most used to the fact that not all drugs are prone to having the expected results. It is a risky business and you may never know how the human organism will eventually respond to the treatment.
Moreover, it has another eight drugs under testing and in waiting for their testing approval. They are medicines that intend to treat cancer, diabetes and even another Alzheimer treatment
. At the moment they are waiting for the Food and Drug Administration acceptance of the Cymbalta drug, made for treating the chronic pain and as well another drug – Byetta, which was made for treating diabetes.
The major gene that announces you dealing with the Alzheimer disease is ApoE4 and there are few people’s that know that they have that gene in themselves. As the gene triples, a person will end up having Alzheimer. As there are around 77 million people in the United States that are said to be carriers of this gene, few know it, as doctors prefer not to tell anything. They do wrong in this
It is anyhow; good for a person to be aware of what he is suffering from as he will have the possibility of counteracting the disease and preventing it. More and more physicians concentrate on preventing Alzheimer, rather than treating it. This is because, the vast majority believes that this is actually a disease that can be cut off pass earlier in life.
One of the scientists that share this opinion is dr. de la Torre that strongly admits that finding a cure for Alzheimer is something that is not likely to happen hundreds year from now on and in a more negative view, never to be found out something like this. This is impossible as according to his works, if you try and bring a brain that is almost dead back to life, you may bring a small part of it back to life but most likely, the persona and the intellect will change and will have a totally different personality. As many scientists believe that this is an incurable disease they concentrate most on preventing it. “Alzheimer’s is incurable, but it is preventable,” he says. “We need to identify and lower Alzheimer’s risk factors in people when they are still cognitively normal and long before irreversible symptoms appear.”
This is a disease that is slow developing and it mainly is triggered by a person’s lifestyle. He is one of the doctors that believe that Alzheimer and dementia are strictly bound to cardiovascular factors. These can be detected in your midlife ages and therefore, if you find such brain damaging cells in your early years, you could start taking some, actions into it.
In their studies they have arrived to the conclusion that there are many factors that are responsible for the Alzheimer development, and such factors are alcohol, smoking, toxic chemicals, injuries at the level of the head, infections, diabetes problems, sleep deprivation, excess calories in your eating, obesity, certain anesthesia that you may have suffered.
The bets time to prepare your brain to fight Alzheimer is in your young years. It is essential that you keep a high level of activity to your brain and you offer it as much stimulation as possible. It is not just about mental stimulation, but as well, social and psychical.
According to some studies, if nothing is done in the sense of preventing and fighting Alzheimer before it actually appears, the cases all over the United States will soon triple. A report from the May Alzheimer Association
predict that the cases of Alzheimer will jump from 5.1 million to 13.5 million by the year 2050 with total medications costs of around $20 trillion in today’s dollars. This is by no means a positive future, from any point of view whatsoever.
If things will be done in this regard, the total number of people getting this disease will be of around 6 million which is far more acceptable than 13.5 million souls. This is something that we should start worrying about and think to raise awareness on it. It is just us and people around us that can fight it and make out of living a good thing for every single person. If we want, we can prevent anything.
