Red Sox Concede Fifth Straight

Rays win as Boston fall deeper

Boston have dropped 3.5 behind leaders New York Yankees when they were crashed 1-9 by Tampa Bay Rays yesterday at the Tropicana Field.

The hosts propelled through to a three point lead after the first winning without allowing their opponents to overturn the result until the end. Zobrist singled to left as Jennings and Upton scored the first double with Longoria getting to second. Rodriguez then hit a sacrifice fly to center as Longoria put his side into a three point lead after one inning.

The second term went scoreless for both sides, while the third one saw Boston provide their only reply of the meeting. Scutaro hit a 407 foot homerun in what was Boston’s only momentum. Rays broke back through Damon who made it 4-1 after Rodriguez doubled to left. The fourth inning also went clean for the two teams, but the fifth one highlighted Tampa Bay impressing with a grand slam.

Upton hit a 451 foot homer as all Kotchman, Lobaton and Jennings propelled their side seven points ahead of the unrecognizable Red Sox. Finally, Zobrist grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop in the seventh term, allowing Upton to close the meeting with a ninth one also thanks to a throwing error committed by second baseman Pedroia.

Tampa Bay have extended their winning streak to four successes, while Boston have worsened their negative run to five defeats. Chicago White Sox 3 – 7 Cleveland Indians

Indians got a sweet revenge over Chicago White Sox when they eased past them yesterday at the US Cellular Field where the hosts were given no chance to break through and take any lead. The opening term went scoreless for the two teams, while the second one brought Indians a three point lead.

Crowe singled to left as Chisenhall scored with Valbuena getting to second. Marson then doubled to center allowing both Valbuena and Crowe to extend the lead to three. Chicago broke back in the third inning, but they could only cut the deficit to one point. At first Beckham grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop for De Aza’s first point and then Ramirez grounded into fielder’s choice to third, allowing Beckham to make it 2-3 with Pierre out at second.

Both sides kept the sheet cleans in the next two terms, but it was Cleveland to push harder and fight for a clear win in Chicago. Valbuena hit a 417 foot homerun in the sixth inning as thigns started to look clear as possible for the visitors.

Furthermore, Donald reached on infield single to pitcher and Chisenhall made it 5-2 with Crowe getting to third and Marson to second. Finally, Crowe and Marson brought the last double in the same eighth term after Santana doubled to right.

St. Louis Cardinals 6 – 3 Atlanta Braves

Jones cut the deficit to four points right afterwards but the visitors was still far from a leveler.

Jones ended the game with a 364 foot homerun as Atlanta packed from Louis beaten. Cardinals have extended their winning streak to five success, the victory over Atlanta being their seventh in the past ten games and 41st at home. They have gone .541 so far this season, record which includes 79 wins and 67 defeats.

As for Braves, they are second in the East, sitting 12 gamesback behind leaders Phillies with a .571 percentage which incorporates 84 wins and 63 losses. The defeat to Cardinals was their third in a row, seventh in the past ten games and 35th on the road.

Toronto Blue Jays 6 – 5 Baltimore Orioles

Toronto have started to build streak when they edged Baltimore yesterday at the Rogers Centre. Orioles grabbed the lead twice but despite that they would lose the meeting due to a poor second half. Angle brought the first lead for the visitors in the first inning after Guerrero hit a sacrifice fly to right.

Jays broke back immediately, managing to take a 2-1 lead in the same inning. Bautista singled to left as McCoy brought the leveler with Thames getting to second. Lawrie then grounded out to second and Thames scored the second one having Bautista to third.

Baltimore evened the situation in the second round when Angle singled to right for Davis’ second point. Toronto got back into the lead in the third inning through McCoy who made it 3-2 after Lind singled to center.

Orioles set the comeback and made it 5-3 three innings later. Markakis singled to right allowing both Davis and Reimold to make it 4-3 with Hardy getting to third. Wieters then grounded into fielder’s choice to first as Angle extended the lead to two points with Geurrero out at second and Markakis to third.

Unfortunately that was not sufficient for a win as Toronto would dispel their deficit in the seventh inning. Cooper and Loewen hit a couple of homeruns, one apiece, making it 5-5 in hat was the turning point of the meeting. Finally, Bautista hit a sacrifice fly to center permitting McCoy to score the winner with two terms remaining.

Blue Jays remain second from the bottom in the East, 15 gamesback behind leaders Yankees, with a .503 record which includes 74 wins and 73 defeats, the victory over the Orioles being their second in a row, fifth in the past ten games and 38th at home.

Baltimore, on contrast, lie foot of the table with a .400 record which keeps them 15 gamesback behind Jays. They have won 58 games and lost 87 this season, the defeat in Toronto being their second in a row, sixth in the past ten games and 48th on the road.

Texas Rangers 8 – 1 Oakland Athletics

Texas thwarted Oakland yesterday at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington where the hosts allowed their opponents to score a late consolation point. the first four innings went scoreless for the two squads but the game was far from being a tight one.

Gentry brought the first lead in the fifth one after Kinsler singled to right, while the same Kinsler doubled it right afterwards, following Hamilton’s sacrifice fly. Beltre then hit a 374 foot homerun as Young made it 4-0, something which had already suggested a clear win for the leaders. Beltre fired yet another homer in the seventh one as the victory became just a matter of time for the favorites.

Gentry singled to center allowing Napoli to extend the lead to six points, while Andrus singled to left for Gentry’s seventh one. Finally, German closed the rally in the eighth inning, after Treanor hit a sacrifice fly to right.

The last word belonged to Sogard who scored the only point for Oakland in the last round. Rangers remain top spot in the East with a .565 percentage which incorporates 83 wins and 64 defeats. The victory over Athletics was their sixth in the past ten games and 46th at home.

On the other side, Oakland lie third with a .452 percentage which keeps them 16.5 behind the leaders. They have gone 66-80 so far this season, the defeat to Rangers being their fourth in the past ten games and 48th on the road.

Colorado Rockies 4 – 1 Cincinnati Reds

Colorado grabbed their second straight win after defeating Reds yesterday at the Coors Field where the hosts scored all their points in succession. Wigginton opened the meeting with a 397 foot homerun, being followed by Young Jr. who doubled the advantage in the fifth inning after Pacheco singled to center.

The same Young made it 3-0 in the seventh term as Fowler got to second on passed ball by Hernandez. Finally, Fowler made it 4-0 after Kouzmanoff grounded out to second in the same inning. On the other side, Cincinnati could only score a consolation point through Votto who hit a 392 foot homerun in the last term.

Rockies are second from the bottom in the West with a .473 record which features 69 wins and 77 defeats, the victory over Reds being their fifth in the past ten games and 38th at the Coors Field. As for Cincinnati, they are third in the Central with a .486 negative percentage including 71 wins and 67 defeats. The loss to Colorado was their second in a row, sixth in the past ten games and 41st on the road.
