Details about the incident in Regent Street, when Prince Charles and his wife Camilla were attacked by student protesters, continue to appear in the British media, showing somehow that the attitude of some of the Britons, younger ones in this case, toward royalty has altered significantly in our times.

Thus, even though the announcement of the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton sparked a lot of interest and sympathy in Britain and all over the world where people are interested in this kind of news, William’s father and his wife had to hear some words that had not been heard in England since the times of King Charles I Stuart and Oliver Cromwell, back in 1649.

On Thursday, nothing was announcing any sort of troube as the royal couple was driving from Clarence Palace on the way to London Palladium, with police motorcycle outriders, who passed the entire Regent Street.

At the sight of the luxurious Rolls Royce 300 demonstrators are reported to have broken away from the main body demonstrating at Whitehall.

British newspaper Independent reports that about 20 students swarmed around the elegant car of the Prince and shouted the incredible words “Off with their heads!”

It is also reported that before the window on Camilla’s side was closed a rioter was able to prod her in the ribs with a stick.

The couple arrived at London Palladium, where they were expected by Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber, and sat in the VIP box and watched Susan Boyle, Cheryl Cole and Take That performing.

On Friday, Prince Charles made another public appearance, presenting medals to the those who served in Afghanistan.

In a statement about the incident, Their Royal Highnesses expressed their gratefulness to the police for protecting them, and the understanding of those who had to suffer because of the economic crisis.

The main concern of their highnesses remains however whether they are safe anymore, now that it happened once and could happen again.

The photographer who was able to shoot the pictures at the site of the incident is Matt Dunham from Associated Press. His pictures appeared in all the international press.
